Messer will showcase its OXYBOOST technology at CRU Nitrogen+Syngas USA 2026, enabling higher nitric acid output, lower emissions, and retrofit upgrades.
Messer Group, the world’s largest privately owned industrial gases company, is set to participate for the first time in the CRU Nitrogen+Syngas USA Expoconference 2026, scheduled to take place from April 21 to April 23, 2026, in Dallas, Texas, United States. During the event, the company will introduce its innovative and patent-pending Nitric Acid OXYBOOST technology, which has already demonstrated successful results at several operating nitric acid production facilities.
The OXYBOOST technology is designed to enhance nitric acid plant performance through a targeted oxygen enrichment process. By optimizing oxygen levels at specific stages of nitric acid production, the system enables plants to increase throughput while simultaneously improving operational efficiency and environmental performance. The technology has been tested and validated in real-world industrial environments, confirming its ability to deliver measurable improvements in production capacity and emissions management.
One of the key advantages of the OXYBOOST system is its ability to significantly boost nitric acid output without requiring extensive capital investment. The technology can be installed as a retrofit solution in existing nitric acid plants, allowing operators to upgrade their facilities without the need for major structural changes or the construction of entirely new production units. This flexibility makes it an attractive option for producers looking to expand capacity quickly while maintaining cost efficiency.
According to Messer, the system can increase nitric acid production by up to 10 percent or more, depending on the configuration and operating conditions of the facility. This increase in output can translate into substantial economic benefits for plant operators, with the company estimating that producers could generate up to $100 per ton in additional net value from incremental production enabled by the technology.
In addition to improving productivity, OXYBOOST also supports environmental sustainability goals. The targeted oxygen enrichment approach can reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by as much as 30 percent. At the same time, the system lowers the consumption of reagents used in Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) processes, which are commonly deployed to control emissions in nitric acid plants. As a result, operators can achieve both operational and environmental improvements simultaneously.
Lorenzo Rizzi, Director of Chemical and Energy Markets at Messer, highlighted the growing market demand for nitric acid and the challenges many producers face in meeting it. He explained that customers frequently report difficulties in keeping up with increasing consumption across multiple industries. Rizzi noted that the OXYBOOST technology provides a practical and rapid solution for producers seeking to increase throughput from their existing assets without significant capital expenditure.
During the conference, attendees will have the opportunity to visit Messer’s exhibition booth to interact with the company’s technical experts. The team will present detailed information about the OXYBOOST technology, including its performance results and implementation process, and discuss how it can help nitric acid producers expand plant capacity while also supporting environmental compliance and sustainability objectives.
