Hindalco Industries Limited, a prominent global player in aluminum and copper and a flagship entity of the Aditya Birla Group, has entrusted Metso with a significant order for the engineering and supply of essential equipment for a new precious metals refinery in Gujarat, India. This cutting-edge refinery will complement an upcoming e-waste recycling facility, with commissioning anticipated within two years.

The scope of Metso's delivery includes a Kaldo™ furnace, complete with off-gas handling and silver refining equipment, alongside the provision of basic engineering services for the refinery. While the specific value of the order has not been disclosed, it is categorized within the Minerals segment's fourth-quarter 2024 orders.

Lauri Närhi, Director of Sales, Smelting at Metso, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “We are excited to have been trusted with yet another important order from Hindalco Industries. The new plant will allow Hindalco Industries to increase their production of precious metals. Our precious metals refining technology ensures high recovery, low operating costs, and high-quality products, all achieved within a short processing time. The process is highly automated, offering a safe working environment and zero toxic gas emissions.”

Metso is renowned for its cutting-edge technology and equipment across the entire copper processing value chain, from ore extraction to cathode production and associated byproducts. The company’s Outotec® Precious Metals Refinery technology is particularly valuable for treating copper anode slime, enabling the recovery of high-value precious metals.
