Millad ClearX 9000 is set to enhance sustainability and operational efficiency for manufacturers in food packaging, medical, and home storage applications.
Milliken & Company today announced the highly anticipated launch of Millad ClearX™ 9000, a significant advancement in clarifying technology designed to transform the aesthetic and performance of polypropylene (PP). This next-generation product, building on the company's established Millad® platform, promises to deliver ultra-clear transparency for PP while allowing manufacturers to use fewer clarifying additives by volume.
Millad ClearX™ 9000 is poised to become the new standard for transparent PP applications, offering substantial improvements in value, aesthetics, and operational efficiency across various industries. It is particularly well-suited for high-standard applications such as food packaging, home storage containers, and medical devices, where both visual appeal and material integrity are paramount.
Wim Van De Velde, SVP and Managing Director of Milliken’s plastic additives business, hailed the launch as a "breakthrough for the polypropylene industry." He noted that the new technology delivers ultra-clear transparency with less additive, providing greater flexibility to Milliken’s customers and reflecting the company’s dedication to advancing material science to meet evolving market demands.
One of the most critical features of the new clarifier is its ability to significantly lower extraction and migration rates in PP packaging and parts, a factor that is vital for products in food-contact and medical environments. Furthermore, Millad ClearX™ 9000 has already secured broad FDA conditions of use approval (A-J), immediately opening the door for its use across a wide spectrum of food-contact applications globally.
For resin producers and converters, the operational benefits are substantial. The enhanced compatibility of the new technology—compared to prior generations and other additives—helps to streamline the manufacturing process. This translates directly to less downtime, less material waste, and quicker changeovers, providing measurable improvements in manufacturing efficiency and throughput.
Crucially, Millad ClearX™ 9000 also introduces a significant boost for sustainability initiatives within the plastics value chain. The technology not only is compatible with other Millad clarifying agents but also enables the optimization of formulations for both virgin and post-consumer recycled (PCR) PP content.
Bhavesh Gandhi, Global Product Line Manager of Milliken’s plastic additives business, emphasized the dual focus on aesthetics and safety. “By reducing additive loading and migration rates, we’re helping our customers create products that are not only visually appealing but also meet the highest standards for food and medical use,” Gandhi stated.
The innovation directly addresses the growing market need for clarity and efficiency in modern polypropylene applications, reinforcing PP’s position as a sustainable and high-performance alternative to traditional materials like PET or PS.
