Minerva Bunkering recently held a ceremony in Singapore to welcome its latest LNG dual-fuel bunker tanker, the M/V Amalthea. This vessel is the first of a series of 8000 DWT LNG-powered bunker tankers that will enhance Minerva's expanding operations in the key Singapore market.

The M/V Amalthea, constructed by Jiangmen Hangtong Shipyard in China and registered in Singapore, exemplifies cutting-edge design and engineering, adhering to the highest industry standards set by Bureau Veritas classification. This advanced tanker features twin Yanmar LNG dual-fuel engines, which not only enhance operational efficiency but also significantly lower emissions, showcasing a commitment to environmental sustainability.

The flexibility of being able to operate on both traditional marine fuels and LNG ensures versatility in various operational scenarios. Additionally, Amalthea is equipped with a Type-C LNG fuel tank that has a capacity of 100 m³, further underscoring Minerva Bunkering’s dedication to innovative solutions in marine fuel supply and its focus on sustainable practices in the industry.

The M/V Amalthea is set to provide bunkering services to a diverse array of vessels within the shipping sector, including container ships, bulk carriers, cruise ships, and tankers. Its dual-fuel capabilities are particularly well-suited to align with Singapore’s initiatives aimed at promoting LNG as a primary marine fuel.

This strategic move not only supports the nation’s goals for cleaner energy solutions but also addresses the increasing demand for more efficient and environmentally friendly bunkering services in one of the busiest ports globally. By enhancing the availability of LNG-powered fuelling options, Amalthea plays a crucial role in advancing sustainable maritime operations, contributing to the reduction of emissions and promoting innovation within the industry.

This positions Minerva Bunkering as a key player in the transition towards greener shipping practices, ensuring that they meet the evolving needs of the market while supporting broader environmental objectives.

The official ceremony to celebrate the arrival of the M/V Amalthea was held on 8 October 2024 at the Port of Singapore. The event was attended by Minerva’s CEO, Tyler Baron, who extended a warm welcome to the vessel. Following this, a blessing ceremony was conducted by Kostas Poydakis, Minerva’s Head of Fleet, to honour the ship’s inaugural entry.

The occasion culminated in the traditional breaking of a champagne bottle against the hull of the vessel, a ceremonial act performed by Zhu Hong, the godmother of Amalthea and one of the founding partners of Mercuria Asia. This event not only marked the launch of the tanker but also underscored the significance of its role in the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainable marine operations.
