MLC strengthens its water treatment capabilities and mineral solutions platform through the acquisition of Burnett, expanding technology, services, and regional operations.

MLC, an international manufacturer and supplier of lime and calcium-based mineral solutions, has successfully completed the acquisition of Burnett, Inc., a recognized technical specialist in lime slurry technologies, delivery systems, and field services. Burnett’s solutions are primarily used in municipal and industrial water treatment applications across the United States. While the transaction has been finalized, the companies have confirmed that the financial terms of the deal will remain confidential.

The acquisition represents a significant milestone for MLC as it strengthens its position in essential infrastructure markets, particularly water and wastewater treatment. Lime plays a vital role in ensuring safe, potable water by supporting processes such as pH control, softening, disinfection, and contaminant removal. By integrating Burnett’s specialized technologies and operational expertise, MLC expands its ability to deliver reliable, high-performance solutions to municipalities and industrial customers alike.

Commenting on the acquisition, MLC President and Chief Executive Officer Paul Hogan emphasized the importance of dependable water infrastructure. He noted that municipalities must consistently provide clean drinking water to their communities, and lime remains a critical input in many treatment processes. According to Hogan, the acquisition enhances MLC’s service capabilities by broadening its product portfolio, strengthening its supply chain footprint, and adding highly skilled technical teams. Beyond municipal water treatment, the expanded capabilities also create opportunities to deliver improved performance in wastewater treatment and other industrial processes where precision and reliability are essential.

From Burnett’s perspective, the decision to join MLC was driven by strategic alignment and shared values. Hugh Burnett, vice president and cofounder of Burnett, Inc., explained that it was crucial to select a buyer committed to long-term growth, integrity, strong customer partnerships, and exceptional service. Burnett and MLC have worked together for decades, with MLC serving as both a supplier and technical resource. Over that time, Burnett leadership observed a close alignment in priorities, culture, and commitment to customers, making MLC a natural partner to carry the business forward.

The acquisition includes four Burnett operating locations across the southeastern United States, along with associated trucking operations. It also brings proprietary technologies and branded solutions into MLC’s portfolio, including CAL~FLO® liquid lime solutions—known for high-quality calcium hydroxide slurry, patented slurry handling equipment, and specialized technical support. In addition, MLC gains the RE~MIN PROCESS®, a suite of process technologies and operational support services designed to improve efficiency, accuracy, and consistency in lime usage.

Together with Burnett’s broader offerings, these solutions help water treatment facilities achieve precise chemical dosing, stable slurry performance, and reduced maintenance challenges. The integration of these capabilities is expected to improve operational reliability for customers while lowering long-term operating costs.

Hogan also acknowledged the contributions of the Burnett family, highlighting their role in building the business through innovation and customer-focused service since its founding. He expressed gratitude for their leadership and collaboration throughout the acquisition process and affirmed MLC’s intention to build upon the legacy they established through continued growth, improvement, and diversification.

Strategically, the acquisition supports MLC’s long-term vision of expanding through targeted investments, enhancing service capabilities, and diversifying its essential minerals platform. The company aims to become a global mineral solutions partner distinguished by an unwavering commitment to safety, service quality, and operational performance.

MLC is privately owned by HBM Holdings Company, a global industrial conglomerate with operating businesses spanning minerals, specialty chemicals, transportation, and equipment markets.
