NanoXplore has secured a multi-year supply contract with Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem) for its proprietary carbon product, Tribograf™. The product will be used in a newly commercialized oil and gas drilling fluid lubricant, NanoSlide™, which was developed in collaboration between the two companies.

NanoXplore Inc, a leader in the global graphene industry, has announced a significant multi-year supply agreement with Chevron Phillips Chemical (CPChem), a top-tier producer of olefins and polyolefins. The contract, effective this October, will see NanoXplore provide its proprietary carbon product, Tribograf™, to CPChem for use in a groundbreaking new lubricant for the oil and gas sector.

The partnership represents a major milestone for both companies. For NanoXplore, it validates the commercial viability and industrial application of its advanced carbon materials. For CPChem, it reinforces its commitment to delivering innovative, high-performance solutions to its customers. The collaboration began several years ago, with CPChem's Drilling Specialties division and NanoXplore working together to develop and test formulations based on Tribograf™. This cooperative effort has culminated in the creation and successful commercialization of a new lubricant, trademarked as NanoSlide™.

NanoSlide™ stands out in the market due to the unique properties of Tribograf™. As a high-aspect ratio graphene product, it offers superior lubrication while avoiding the flow restrictions often associated with similar materials. This makes it particularly effective for use in some of the most challenging and demanding geological formations.

For example, the lubricant has been successfully deployed in tight oil reservoirs, as well as in formations characterized by low permeability and porosity. It has also shown a remarkable ability to improve operations on extended reach laterals, which are horizontal wells that can extend for thousands of feet. By reducing the coefficient of friction, NanoSlide™ enables shorter drilling times, which can lead to significant cost savings and improved operational efficiency for oil and gas companies.

The supply agreement not only signifies a commercial win but also reflects a shared vision for innovation. Jay Bickett, senior vice president of polymers & specialties at CPChem, commented, “This agreement reflects our shared focus on driving innovation and enhancing product efficiency. We look forward to creating meaningful value for customers through this collaboration.”

Rocco Marinaccio, chief operating officer at NanoXplore, echoed this sentiment, stating, “After years of collaborative work, we are proud to achieve this significant milestone for NanoXplore. This contract reflects our belief that advanced carbon materials can deliver impactful value across various industrial applications.”

This long-term agreement is expected to be a key driver in expanding the commercial use of Tribograf™ and solidifying NanoXplore's position as a leading supplier of advanced carbon materials.
