NEXTCHEM secures China licensing deal for NX CONSER technologies enabling efficient, integrated DMS and BDO production supporting biodegradable polymers.

MAIRE has announced that its sustainable technology subsidiary NEXTCHEM, acting through its technology licensing arm CONSER, has secured a significant contract in China. The award includes a licensing agreement and the provision of a comprehensive Process Design Package (PDP) for the implementation of its proprietary NX CONSER™ MAN and NX CONSER™ Duetto technologies. These advanced solutions will be utilized by a leading state-owned chemical enterprise in China to enable the integrated co-production of Dimethyl Succinate (DMS) and 1,4-Butanediol (BDO).

The scope of the agreement encompasses the full design framework for a combined DMS and BDO production complex. By integrating these two value chains within a single optimized configuration, the project aims to maximize operational efficiency while enhancing product yield and purity. The produced BDO and DMS will serve as critical intermediates for downstream applications, particularly in the manufacturing of Polybutylene Succinate (PBS) and a range of other high-performance specialty polymers. These materials are increasingly in demand due to their biodegradable properties and their role in advancing circular economy initiatives.

NX CONSER™ MAN and NX CONSER™ Duetto technologies are designed to deliver superior conversion rates and exceptional product purity, ensuring competitive production economics. Their process configuration significantly reduces feedstock consumption, contributing to lower environmental impact and improved overall sustainability metrics. Moreover, the technologies are engineered for seamless integration with downstream polymer units, allowing manufacturers to maintain flexibility in production planning and respond efficiently to shifting market demands for advanced bioplastics and specialty materials.

The award also opens the door for future opportunities. Following the licensing and PDP phase, additional tenders are anticipated for the supply of proprietary catalysts and specialized equipment associated with the process technologies. This creates the potential for expanded collaboration and deeper technical engagement between the parties as the project progresses toward execution.

China represents a strategically important market for sustainable chemical production and bio-based materials. The country’s growing emphasis on environmental performance, resource efficiency, and biodegradable alternatives has created strong demand for advanced process technologies capable of delivering both economic and environmental benefits. By securing this contract, NEXTCHEM further strengthens its presence in the Asian market and reinforces its position as a competitive technology provider in the rapidly evolving bioplastics sector.

Commenting on the development, Fabio Fritelli, Managing Director of NEXTCHEM, highlighted that the award reflects increasing market confidence in the company’s capability to combine complementary technologies through advanced process integration. He emphasized that this integrated approach generates tangible advantages in terms of cost efficiency, energy optimization, and product quality. According to Fritelli, the success underscores the company’s technological excellence and enhances its competitiveness in a key industrial region such as China, where sustainable materials and bio-based production pathways are gaining strong momentum.
