Nikkiso commissions advanced air separation plant for Coregas in Queensland, boosting sustainable gas supply, efficiency, and supporting regional industrial growth.

Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Group has successfully completed the commissioning of a new air separation unit (ASU) for Coregas in Queensland, marking an important milestone in strengthening the region’s industrial gas infrastructure. The facility, located in Darra, represents a significant investment in advanced gas production technology aimed at supporting a wide range of industrial, specialty, and healthcare applications.

The newly installed Cosmodyne plant is designed to produce liquid oxygen and nitrogen on a daily basis, ensuring a reliable and consistent supply to meet growing regional demand. The facility has also been engineered with scalability in mind, allowing for future capacity expansions as market requirements evolve. This forward-looking approach positions the plant as a key asset for supporting Queensland’s industrial development and healthcare needs, particularly as demand for high-purity gases continues to rise.

According to George Pappagelis, President of Nikkiso CE&IG’s Applied Technologies Business Unit, the project reflects the company’s commitment to engineering innovation. He highlighted that the ASU incorporates a specialized process cycle developed by Nikkiso’s engineering team. This proprietary design enhances operational efficiency by optimizing liquid production output while achieving industry-leading energy performance. The result is a plant that not only meets current production requirements but also aligns with global trends toward energy efficiency and sustainability.

The successful execution of the project was made possible through a highly coordinated effort between Nikkiso’s global manufacturing network and its regional operations in Australia. Critical components of the facility were manufactured at the company’s production base in India, demonstrating the strength of its international supply chain. These components were then integrated with locally sourced equipment and installation services provided by the Australian team, ensuring seamless project delivery and adherence to local standards.

This hybrid delivery model enabled Nikkiso to offer a comprehensive turnkey solution, combining global technical expertise with strong on-the-ground execution capabilities. By leveraging both international and local resources, the company was able to optimize project efficiency, reduce lead times, and maintain high-quality standards throughout the commissioning process.

Tarun Changrani, Managing Director of Coregas, emphasized the strategic importance of the new facility for the region. He described the plant as a transformative development for Queensland, noting its role in enhancing sustainability and ensuring a stable supply of essential gases. The project is expected to contribute significantly to industrial growth while supporting decarbonization efforts, reinforcing Coregas’s commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility.

Overall, the commissioning of this advanced air separation unit underscores the growing importance of efficient and sustainable gas production solutions in supporting modern industries and regional economic development.
