Niutech Wins Global Energy Deal for Waste Plastic-to-SAF Line

George Orwell 31-Aug-2026
Niutech has secured a major energy contract to deploy waste plastic pyrolysis technology, supporting large-scale production of sustainable aviation fuel.

Niutech Technology Group Co., Ltd. has signed a sales agreement with a global energy major to supply an Industrial Continuous Waste Plastic Pyrolysis Production Line, strengthening its position in the rapidly developing waste-to-fuel market. The project will use Niutech’s proprietary continuous pyrolysis technology to process waste plastics into pyrolysis oil, which will then undergo hydrotreatment to produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

The production line will be installed at one of the customer’s large-scale refineries and will have a single-unit processing capacity ranging from 10,000 to 50,000 tonnes per year. The agreement represents Niutech’s first entry into the global energy company’s equipment supply chain and provides an important commercial validation of its industrial-scale pyrolysis technology.

SAF has emerged as an important pathway for reducing carbon emissions from the aviation sector. Regulatory support in Europe is also accelerating demand for alternative aviation fuels. Under the European Union’s ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation, airlines are required to use a minimum 2% SAF blend from 2025, with the requirement increasing to 6% by 2030 and eventually reaching 70% by 2050.

While used cooking oil (UCO) remains a key feedstock for SAF production, limited availability could constrain its long-term growth. As a result, waste plastic is gaining attention as an alternative feedstock for producing aviation fuel. Niutech’s technology is designed to convert low-value plastic waste, including polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polystyrene (PS), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), and nylon, into pyrolysis oil. The technology can process both individual plastic streams and mixed waste plastics.

A key advantage of the system is its ability to process waste plastics without complicated pre-treatment processes such as washing, sorting, and drying. This could help reduce feedstock preparation requirements and improve the commercial viability of large-scale waste plastic recycling and fuel production.

Niutech has already deployed its continuous waste plastic pyrolysis technology commercially in several markets, including the United Kingdom, South Korea, Denmark, Thailand, Vietnam, and China. The company has completed multiple continuous pyrolysis projects with capacities in the 10,000-tpy range.

According to Niutech, large-scale pyrolysis projects require strong continuous operating capabilities and reliable equipment. The company said its nearly four decades of experience in pyrolysis technology and its extensive project portfolio helped demonstrate the maturity of its industrial continuous systems. The latest agreement further strengthens the company’s credentials in large-scale waste-to-fuel applications and could create opportunities for additional refinery-integrated pyrolysis projects.

Impact on Product & Chemical Commodity Prices

The agreement is bullish for waste plastic pyrolysis oil and SAF, as greater commercial deployment could increase demand for waste plastics as feedstock and strengthen the market for recycled hydrocarbon intermediates. Over time, expanded pyrolysis capacity could increase the supply of pyrolysis oil, potentially limiting price gains if production scales rapidly. For PP, PE, PS, ABS, and nylon, increased diversion of post-consumer waste into pyrolysis could reduce the availability of recycled feedstock and support prices for waste plastic streams. However, the impact on virgin polymer prices should remain limited initially. For tracked commodities, the development is likely to create moderate long-term upward support for recycled materials, while adding competitive pressure to conventional fossil-based feedstocks.
