Noveon Magnetics partners with Solvay to supply sustainable rare earth materials, strengthening U.S. magnet production and ensuring long-term supply resilience.

Noveon Magnetics and Solvay have entered into a long-term supply partnership focused on securing a sustainable and reliable source of light and heavy rare earth materials essential for permanent magnet production. The agreement marks a major milestone in strengthening the domestic supply chain for rare earth elements that are critical to the clean energy transition, electric mobility, and advanced manufacturing industries.

Under the terms of the agreement, Solvay will begin supplying Noveon with rare earth oxides starting in 2026. These include Neodymium-Praseodymium (NdPr), Dysprosium (Dy), and Terbium (Tb) oxides — all vital ingredients in the production of high-performance permanent magnets used in electric vehicles, renewable energy technologies, and various defense and industrial applications. The oxides will be sourced from multiple streams, including recycled end-of-life (EOL) materials, supporting both companies’ shared vision for a circular and sustainable supply chain.

For Noveon Magnetics, a leading U.S.-based manufacturer of rare earth permanent magnets, the agreement represents a crucial step toward enhancing supply security and reducing dependence on foreign raw material sources. “This agreement strengthens our ability to deliver reliable, American-made magnet solutions to industries that depend on them most,” said Scott Dunn, CEO of Noveon Magnetics. “By working with Solvay, we are building a resilient supply chain at a time when the U.S. needs it most.”

Solvay, a global leader in specialty materials and chemicals, will leverage its deep expertise in rare earth processing to ensure high-quality oxide supply for Noveon’s magnet production. An Nuyttens, President of Solvay’s Special Chem division, emphasized the importance of the partnership, stating, “Partnering with Noveon allows us to apply Solvay’s expertise to supply essential resources for high-performance applications. This collaboration aligns with our broader commitment to sustainable and secure rare earth supply chains, both in Europe and globally.”

The partnership arrives at a pivotal time when demand for domestically sourced rare earth magnets is surging. As nations seek to strengthen their clean energy infrastructure and reduce dependence on overseas suppliers, collaborations like this are key to accelerating industrial resilience. By combining Solvay’s chemical processing capabilities with Noveon’s advanced manufacturing infrastructure, the partnership ensures a near-term production capacity that mitigates long project timelines and global supply chain vulnerabilities.

Beyond supply assurance, the collaboration also highlights a joint commitment to sustainability. By utilizing recycled rare earth materials and promoting closed-loop systems, both companies are contributing to a lower-carbon, more resource-efficient magnet supply ecosystem.

Ultimately, the Noveon–Solvay partnership not only supports the growing domestic magnet industry but also advances global efforts toward cleaner technologies, strategic resource independence, and the development of a resilient, circular rare earth economy.
