Omya showcases sustainable polymer solutions at K 2025, highlighting decarbonization, lightweighting, and circular innovations to support global plastics industry transformation.
Omya, a leading global producer of industrial minerals and distributor of specialty materials, is set to present its latest sustainable innovations at K 2025, the world’s most influential trade fair for plastics and rubber, taking place in Düsseldorf. At this event, Omya will emphasize key themes such as performance polymers, decarbonization, circularity, and lightweighting, all aimed at accelerating the shift toward a more sustainable and circular economy. Visitors can find the company at Hall 6, Booth D75.
One of the major announcements from Omya is the launch of Omya Performance Polymers Distribution (OPPD). Established earlier this year, OPPD unites Omya’s global polymer distribution network with Distrupol, expanding its ability to serve the fast-evolving international plastics market. This new entity strengthens the company’s offering of high-performance polymers and enhances its global footprint in the industry.
Driving Decarbonization with Mineral Solutions
Omya is leveraging its deep expertise in mineral-based technologies to help lower the environmental footprint of plastics. Its advanced calcium carbonate products not only reduce emissions but also enhance material performance. Among the company’s latest offerings are Omyaloop FC, designed for general-purpose applications, and Omya Smartfill 55-AV, suited for engineering polymers and biopolymers. Both grades are certified by Bureau Veritas and produced using renewable energy sources. According to Omya, these materials can cut carbon emissions by up to two-thirds, supporting compliance with stringent European Union sustainability standards.
“Our mineral solutions allow manufacturers to significantly reduce environmental impact while simultaneously improving product quality and functionality,” explained Marco Viel, Vice President of Polymers at Omya.
Lightweighting for Efficiency and High Performance
Another innovation on display is the Omyasphere 900 series, hollow glass microspheres engineered to reduce material weight without sacrificing strength. These fillers are particularly valuable for industries such as automotive, aerospace, and electronics, where weight reduction translates into improved energy efficiency and performance. They also deliver enhanced flow properties, higher filler loading capacity, and improved thermal and dielectric performance, while maintaining dimensional stability in advanced polymer and construction applications.
Sustainable Advancements in the Hygiene Sector
Omya is also advancing solutions in the hygiene and textile markets. Omyafilm technology enables manufacturers to produce thinner films without compromising process stability or end-product quality, while Omyafiber is being introduced to nonwovens, textiles, and carpet applications. These innovations reduce material consumption and environmental impact, while delivering consistent technical benefits and cost efficiencies.
A Comprehensive Partner for Polymer Challenges
Beyond its mineral-based portfolio, Omya offers a broad selection of specialty materials through partnerships with leading global manufacturers. This includes bio-based additives and CO2-reducing solutions, further reinforcing its role as a one-stop partner for the plastics industry. By combining global reach with deep technical expertise, Omya positions itself as a trusted ally for companies seeking sustainable, high-performance, and efficient solutions in an increasingly competitive market.
