Welcome To ChemAnalyst
PPG has introduced its new PPG ONE RANGE™ portfolio, comprising five one-component marine coatings designed to simplify onboard vessel maintenance. The portfolio was unveiled at the SMM 2026 maritime industry trade fair in Hamburg, Germany, where PPG highlighted solutions aimed at helping ship crews complete maintenance activities more efficiently and with fewer application-related challenges.
Marine coatings play an important role in protecting vessels from corrosion, wear, weather exposure, and other demanding operating conditions. However, routine coating maintenance can require significant preparation, particularly when crews must mix multiple components before application. PPG’s new portfolio addresses this challenge through ready-to-use, one-component formulations that eliminate the need for mixing.
According to PPG, the simplified format can help crews reduce preparation time while making storage, handling, and application easier. The approach is also expected to reduce material waste, which can support more efficient onboard maintenance operations.
The PPG ONE RANGE portfolio covers a variety of maintenance requirements through waterborne, alkyd, and polyurethane technologies. These products are intended for both interior and exterior applications, giving vessel operators a broader range of coating options within a single portfolio. Some formulations also incorporate technologies designed to support low volatile organic compound (VOC) compliance and low flame-spread certification, addressing increasingly important environmental and safety requirements in the maritime sector.
PPG is extending the portfolio's efficiency focus with the preview of its PPG POWERPACK™ application tool at SMM Hamburg. The portable, battery-powered system is designed to work with the PPG ONE RANGE products and improve application productivity. Crews can reportedly switch between roller and brush applications using the same unit, reducing the need to change equipment during maintenance work.
The combination of ready-to-use coatings and a flexible application system reflects PPG’s broader strategy of simplifying marine maintenance while improving operational efficiency. By reducing preparation requirements and equipment changes, the company aims to help crews complete maintenance projects with less disruption to vessel operations.
PPG is showcasing the ONE RANGE portfolio and POWERPACK tool at SMM Hamburg from September 1 to 4 in Hall B, Stand 419. The launch strengthens PPG’s presence in the marine coatings market and highlights the growing emphasis on easy-to-use, compliant, and productivity-focused maintenance solutions.
Product Impact & Chemical Commodity Price Impact
The launch is likely to have a positive impact on PPG’s marine coatings portfolio, as one-component formulations can improve adoption by reducing mixing, preparation time, storage complexity, and application waste. The products may strengthen PPG’s competitiveness in vessel maintenance, particularly where operators seek lower-VOC and safety-compliant coatings. For chemical commodities tracked by ChemAnalyst, the immediate price impact should remain limited, as the launch does not indicate a major change in raw-material demand. However, stronger sales of polyurethane, alkyd, and waterborne coatings could gradually support demand for resins, solvents, additives, pigments, and isocyanate-related intermediates, providing mild upward price pressure if production volumes expand.
