PPG launched Selemix 7-140 high-solids industrial topcoat, delivering superior durability, corrosion resistance, application flexibility and certified long-term protection.

PPG has expanded its portfolio of industrial coating solutions with the launch of the new PPG SELEMIX® 7-140 2K acrylic high-solids topcoat across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). The latest addition to the PPG Selemix range has been developed to address increasing demand from industrial manufacturers and customers seeking advanced coating systems that provide superior durability, aesthetic appeal and long-lasting protection in harsh operating environments.

The newly introduced PPG Selemix 7-140 topcoat has been engineered to deliver premium performance for a broad range of industrial applications. The coating offers exceptional durability combined with a high-gloss finish, making it suitable for machinery and equipment exposed to demanding working conditions. Industries such as agriculture, construction and heavy industrial manufacturing are expected to benefit significantly from the product due to the need for coatings that can withstand continuous wear, corrosion and environmental stress while maintaining appearance and performance over time.

According to PPG, the high-solids formulation not only enhances protective capabilities but also improves application efficiency and finish quality. The product is designed to provide reliable performance where long-term surface protection is essential, particularly for industrial equipment and machinery regularly subjected to moisture, chemicals, UV exposure and mechanical abrasion.

Kelly Hess, global light industrial coatings product manager for Automotive Refinish at PPG, stated that the launch demonstrates the company’s continued commitment to supporting growth in important industrial sectors by delivering advanced coating technologies that combine premium quality, durability and operational efficiency. She added that the new topcoat has been developed to meet evolving customer expectations for high-performance industrial finishes while also supporting flexible manufacturing processes.

One of the key advantages of the PPG Selemix 7-140 coating is its broad compatibility with multiple application methods. The product can be applied using conventional spray guns, air-assisted airless spray systems and electrostatic spray equipment. This versatility enables manufacturers and industrial coating applicators to integrate the product into different production environments without requiring major process changes or specialized equipment investments.

The topcoat is also compatible with PPG Selemix epoxy and polyurethane primers, allowing users to create a complete industrial paint system designed for enhanced durability and long-term protection. When combined with these primers, the coating system forms a hard-wearing surface capable of resisting severe industrial conditions while maintaining an attractive finish.

PPG highlighted several major performance benefits associated with the new topcoat. These include excellent resistance to humidity, salt spray, ultraviolet radiation, chemicals and mechanical wear, all of which are critical factors for industrial machinery operating in challenging outdoor or corrosive environments. The coating also provides strong sag resistance during application, helping ensure smoother and more uniform coverage while improving productivity for applicators.

In addition to its protective properties, the coating delivers a smooth and visually appealing finish suitable for a wide variety of industrial painting applications. The high-quality surface appearance supports manufacturers looking to combine functional protection with strong product aesthetics.

Importantly, the PPG Selemix 7-140 coating has achieved certification up to C5M performance classification under ISO 12944-6 standards when used as part of a complete PPG Selemix paint system. This certification indicates a high level of corrosion protection and coating durability for industrial environments, including highly corrosive marine and offshore conditions. The ISO standard evaluates both environmental corrosivity and the long-term durability of protective coating systems, reinforcing the product’s suitability for demanding industrial applications requiring maximum reliability and protection.
