PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC), a prominent subsidiary of Asia's leading petrochemical company, PTT, has recently announced its decision to sustain its phenol and acetone production capacity at 90% throughout the month of December. This strategic move comes as part of the company's ongoing efforts to optimize operational efficiency and resource allocation. The production facility, with an annual capacity of 250 thousand tons of phenol and 150 thousand tons of acetone, initiated a reduction in utilization from December 1.

Earlier in November, PTTGC made headlines by resuming phenol and acetone production at its facility in Map Ta Phut, Thailand. This significant development followed a scheduled maintenance period that led to the temporary closure of the production facility in mid-October. The facility, known for its substantial capacity, plays a crucial role in the petrochemical landscape, particularly in the production of phenol—a key raw material for bisphenol A (BPA), an essential component in the manufacturing of polycarbonate (PC).

Established on October 19, 2011, through the merger of PTT Chemical Company and PTT Aromatics and Refining Company, PTTGC set out with the primary objective of becoming the flagship entity within the PTT Chemical Group. This strategic integration resulted in an impressive total capacity for olefins and aromatics production, reaching 8.2 million tons per year. Additionally, the company's capacity for petroleum products reached 280 thousand barrels per day, establishing PTTGC as the largest integrated petrochemical and refining company not only in Thailand but also across Asia.

The decision to maintain a production capacity of 90% for phenol and acetone underscores PTTGC's commitment to operational excellence. By optimizing production levels, the company aims to sustain its position as a leading player in the highly dynamic petrochemical industry. This approach aligns seamlessly with PTTGC's broader strategic objectives and its dedication to maintaining a strong and efficient presence within the Asian petrochemical landscape.

The importance of phenol in the production of BPA, a key ingredient in PC manufacturing, highlights the pivotal role PTTGC plays in the supply chain of essential materials for various industries. The recent resumption of phenol and acetone production reflects the company's resilience and adaptability, ensuring a stable supply chain for downstream products critical to industries reliant on PC.

PTT Global Chemical's strategic decision to uphold a 90% production capacity for phenol and acetone in December underscores its commitment to navigating the evolving petrochemical landscape with a focus on sustainability and efficiency. As a key player in Asia's petrochemical industry, PTTGC continues to set industry standards and reinforce its position as a major contributor to the region's economic and industrial development.
