PTTGC Resumes Phenol and Acetone Manufacturing Operations in Thailand

PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC), a prominent subsidiary of Asia's leading petrochemical company, PTT, has recently announced its decision to sustain its phenol and acetone production capacity at 90% throughout the month of December. This strategic move comes as part of the company's ongoing efforts to optimize operational efficiency and resource allocation. The production facility, with an annual capacity of 250 thousand tons of phenol and 150 thousand tons of acetone, initiated a reduction in utilization from December 1.

Earlier in November, PTTGC made headlines by resuming phenol and acetone production at its facility in Map Ta Phut, Thailand. This significant development followed a scheduled maintenance period that led to the temporary closure of the production facility in mid-October. The facility, known for its substantial capacity, plays a crucial role in the petrochemical landscape, particularly in the production of phenol—a key raw material for bisphenol A (BPA), an essential component in the manufacturing of polycarbonate (PC).

Established on October 19, 2011, through the merger of PTT Chemical Company and PTT Aromatics and Refining Company, PTTGC set out with the primary objective of becoming the flagship entity within the PTT Chemical Group. This strategic integration resulted in an impressive total capacity for olefins and aromatics production, reaching 8.2 million tons per year. Additionally, the company's capacity for petroleum products reached 280 thousand barrels per day, establishing PTTGC as the largest integrated petrochemical and refining company not only in Thailand but also across Asia.
