RECOUP’s expertise helped Enviroo secure £58m for a PET recycling plant, ensuring environmental benefits, circular economy growth, and sustainable jobs.

Enviroo’s plan to establish a state-of-the-art PET recycling facility in the North West of England has received a significant boost through the strategic support of RECOUP, the UK’s leading independent authority on plastics recycling. The non-profit organization played a pivotal role in providing critical market intelligence and policy insights that helped validate Enviroo’s ambitious project and secure the necessary funding.

Enviroo successfully obtained £58 million in financing after RECOUP conducted an extensive validation of the PET recycling market. This effort involved carefully cross-referencing and confirming third-party industry research, carrying out market feasibility assessments, and consolidating intelligence on waste management trends and recycling policies. By offering this in-depth due diligence, RECOUP ensured that Enviroo’s proposal was perceived as both economically viable and environmentally beneficial, giving funders the confidence to back the project.

Thanks to RECOUP’s guidance, Enviroo was able to present a compelling, evidence-backed case for investment, aligning the facility with the UK’s broader recycling and sustainability objectives. Ahmed Detta, CEO of Enviroo, expressed his appreciation, emphasizing that RECOUP’s expertise provided the company with invaluable knowledge at a critical juncture. He noted that evidence-based insights enabled Enviroo to clearly demonstrate the growing stability of the PET recycling market, while also showing investors how the project could navigate evolving waste management regulations and national recycling policies.

Stuart Foster, CEO of RECOUP, also highlighted the significance of the collaboration. He remarked that the project represents a clear example of how innovation, when supported by robust evidence and cross-sector cooperation, can unlock meaningful progress in sustainability. Foster added that RECOUP was proud to contribute the due diligence and insight needed to help secure investment for a facility poised to make a substantial contribution to the UK’s recycling future. He described it as a demonstration of how specialized expertise can accelerate circularity, reduce waste, and reinforce domestic recycling infrastructure.

The recycling facility itself will be constructed within Peel NRE’s £165 million Protos Plastic Park at Ince Marshes, near Ellesmere Port. Scheduled to become operational by 2027, the plant will have the capacity to process up to 35,000 tonnes of plastic each year. By converting PET plastics into high-quality food-grade packaging, the facility will play a crucial role in strengthening local circular economy initiatives.

Beyond its environmental benefits, the project is also expected to contribute positively to the UK’s economic and social goals. It supports the country’s net zero ambitions, reduces reliance on virgin plastic, and creates sustainable employment opportunities within the green economy. Enviroo’s facility is therefore not just a recycling project—it represents a model for how evidence-driven planning and collaboration can drive real change in sustainability.
