The over $240 million investment in its CertainTeed Gypsum facility in Palatka is a cornerstone of Saint-Gobain's growth strategy in the fast-growing U.S. Southeast, boosting production and creating 110 new jobs.
Saint-Gobain, a global leader in light and sustainable construction, today announced the completion of a major $240 million-plus expansion at its CertainTeed Gypsum manufacturing facility in Palatka, Florida. The investment has doubled the site's production capacity, transforming it into the largest gypsum wallboard manufacturing facility in the world, surpassing its sister site in Silver Grove, Kentucky.
The significant expansion, which was first announced in 2023, was formally celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by company executives and local leaders. The project is a major economic boost for the region, projected to create 110 new jobs in the greater Jacksonville area and reinforce the facility's status as one of the largest employers in Palatka and Putnam County.
The increase in production volume is strategically aimed at meeting the growing demand for building materials like gypsum (also known as calcium sulphate), particularly in the fast-expanding southeastern United States. The investment aligns with Saint-Gobain's global "Grow and Impact" strategy to expand its presence in key, fast-growing markets.

He extended congratulations to the Palatka team and partners who made the project possible, emphasizing the continued supply of high-quality gypsum wallboard to builders and homeowners.
The modernized facility incorporates advanced, energy-efficient technology, including a new industrial dryer, to enhance both production efficiency and capacity. The plant is continuing its commitment to a circular economy by maintaining and promoting practices to recycle and reuse gypsum material, further reducing waste in its operations.
The celebration included remarks from CertainTeed Interior Projects Group President Jay Bachmann, who underscored the hard work involved in delivering state-of-the-art products. He also acknowledged the vital support from the Palatka community, Putnam County, and the State of Florida for a project that will bring "quality, high-paying jobs to the local area."
The expansion received considerable external support, including more than $7 million in cash benefits and high-impact investment tax credits, such as a State of Florida Capital Investment Tax Credit and a grant from Putnam County. This public-private partnership highlights the local and state commitment to industrial growth.
