Saint-Gobain has announced two strategic acquisitions in the Asia-Pacific region as part of its ongoing expansion strategy, reinforcing its presence in high-growth markets and strengthening its portfolio of sustainable construction solutions. The move comes as the company recorded an impressive 9.0% year-on-year sales growth in local currencies across the Asia-Pacific region during the first quarter of 2026.
In Vietnam, Saint-Gobain has completed the acquisition of Phu My Innovative Materials (PMIM), one of the country's largest and most technologically advanced plasterboard manufacturing facilities. PMIM generated approximately €20 million in revenue in 2025 and is expected to offer significant growth opportunities as demand for modern construction materials continues to increase.
Saint-Gobain has already established a strong position in Vietnam through an extensive distribution network comprising more than 3,200 retailers and 15,000 installers, with the installer base doubling since 2022. The company currently operates 12 manufacturing facilities in the country and holds leading positions across multiple product categories, including gypsum products, light steel framing systems, cement boards, and construction chemicals. Its integrated portfolio serves residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects, contributing over €200 million in revenue in 2025, representing a 2.5-fold increase compared to a decade ago. By integrating PMIM into its operations, Saint-Gobain aims to enhance production capabilities and better meet the country's growing demand for lightweight, energy-efficient, and environmentally sustainable building materials.
In Japan, Saint-Gobain has signed a share transfer agreement to acquire AGC Corporation’s majority stake in AGC Polymer Materials, a well-established supplier of polyurethane waterproofing and flooring solutions. The acquired business reported approximately €50 million in sales during 2025 and will significantly strengthen Saint-Gobain's construction chemicals portfolio in Japan by complementing its existing GCP business. The acquisition is also expected to increase the company's exposure in Japan, where it generated more than €300 million in revenue during 2025. Completion of the transaction is anticipated during the first quarter of 2027, subject to customary closing conditions.
Both acquisitions support Saint-Gobain's long-term "Lead & Grow" strategy, which focuses on expanding its leadership in rapidly developing markets through targeted investments in high-value businesses. The additions will enhance the company's ability to provide innovative, sustainable, and integrated building solutions across Asia-Pacific while strengthening its competitive position in construction materials and specialty construction chemicals. As urbanization and infrastructure investments continue to rise across the region, these acquisitions are expected to create long-term growth opportunities and reinforce Saint-Gobain's commitment to sustainable construction.
Impact on Product
The acquisitions are expected to strengthen the availability of advanced plasterboards, gypsum systems, polyurethane waterproofing products, flooring solutions, and construction chemicals across Vietnam and Japan. Improved manufacturing capacity, stronger regional distribution networks, and enhanced technical expertise will enable Saint-Gobain to deliver more sustainable, lightweight, and energy-efficient building materials. Customers are likely to benefit from broader product offerings, improved supply reliability, and greater innovation in construction solutions, supporting the growing demand from residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
