Silicon Metals receives five-year permits for silica exploration in British Columbia, enabling drilling, sampling, and infrastructure development at Ptarmigan.
Silicon Metals Corp., based in Vancouver, British Columbia, has announced the successful receipt of two crucial exploration permits—the five-year Mines Act Permit and Free Use Permit—from the British Columbia Ministry of Mining and Critical Minerals. These authorizations allow the company to advance its exploration efforts at its wholly-owned Ptarmigan Silica Project, located roughly 130 kilometres northeast of Prince George, British Columbia.
The permits, which are valid from July 31, 2025, to December 30, 2030, represent a significant development for Silicon Metals Corp. They provide the legal and regulatory framework necessary for the company to proceed with a variety of field activities essential for exploration and project advancement. Specifically, the permits authorize surface drilling, trenching, bulk sampling of up to 2,000 tonnes, and the construction of exploration trails and infrastructure.
This development is a key milestone for the company as it seeks to assess and unlock the high-purity silica potential of the Ptarmigan Silica Project. Silica is a critical material with widespread industrial uses, including applications in solar panels, electronics, and high-performance glass. With global demand for high-purity silica continuing to grow, the project presents a strategic opportunity for Silicon Metals to enter a high-value niche in the critical minerals sector.
Morgan Good, Chief Executive Officer of Silicon Metals Corp., expressed strong optimism about the future of the project. "Silicon Metals is overly thrilled to receive these permits that allow so many different work programs at Ptarmigan, especially so expeditiously," said Good. He further emphasized that the newly granted permits significantly reduce the development risk associated with the project. This, combined with the company's recent acquisition of the Permitted Maple Birch Permit, enhances Silicon Metals’ overall project portfolio and positions the company advantageously for upcoming exploration phases.
Good added that these developments set the stage for a pivotal year in 2026, when the company expects to see major strides in project development and potential value generation for shareholders. The management sees this as a turning point in Silicon Metals' corporate growth and resource development roadmap, with the Ptarmigan Silica Project playing a central role in that trajectory.
With regulatory permissions secured, Silicon Metals is now poised to move forward with confidence, aiming to generate valuable geological data and possibly define an economically viable silica resource. These advancements reflect the company’s commitment to supporting the green economy through exploration and development of critical minerals in a responsible and forward-thinking manner.
