Solvay has signed an agreement to license its advanced hydrogen peroxide technology to North Huajin Refining and Petrochemical Company (North Huajin) for the production of 300 kilotons of propylene oxide annually at North Huajin’s Panjin facility in Liaoning Province, China. The launch is targeted for 2026. Through its cutting-edge hydrogen peroxide technology, Solvay collaborates with customers to establish efficient, reliable, and safe production facilities. For North Huajin, Solvay will provide its proprietary mega-scale process, which includes a comprehensive process design package, operational expertise, and ongoing support to ensure reliable and optimized production.

As part of this collaboration, Solvay will also supply its proprietary 2-amylanthraquinone (AQ), a critical component in the highly productive and eco-friendly chemical process integral to Solvay’s mega-scale technology. This strategic move strengthens Solvay’s hydrogen peroxide business growth in China, catering to the region's expanding industrial demands.

“This is our third licensing agreement in China for Solvay’s proprietary high-productivity, mega-scale hydrogen peroxide technology,” stated Carlos Silveira, President of Solvay's Peroxides business. “Through these partnerships, we help customers produce high-quality hydrogen peroxide with the same performance levels as our own facilities. We are excited to work alongside North Huajin in this venture.”

North Huajin’s President, Jin Xiaochen, emphasized the significance of the agreement, noting, “This milestone reflects the deepening collaboration between our companies. By combining our resources, extensive local market knowledge, and value chain strengths with Solvay’s expertise and advanced technology, we are poised to meet market demands more effectively.”

The Hydrogen Peroxide to Propylene Oxide (HPPO) process that Solvay provides is crucial for producing propylene oxide (PO), an important chemical intermediate. Propylene oxide is widely used in the production of polyurethane foams, adhesives, coatings, and various plastics and chemicals essential to industries such as construction, automotive, healthcare, and agriculture. This collaboration between Solvay and North Huajin supports advancements in these sectors, facilitating the supply of high-quality materials for diverse applications.

By licensing its proprietary process technology to North Huajin, Solvay aims to enhance the quality and efficiency of hydrogen peroxide production in China, building on its reputation as a leader in sustainable, large-scale manufacturing solutions.

Solvay, a trailblazing chemical company founded by Ernest Solvay, is committed to providing essential global solutions through its team of over 9,000 employees. Since its establishment in 1863, Solvay has leveraged the power of chemistry to develop innovative and sustainable solutions that tackle some of the world's most critical challenges.
