Solvay to More Than Double Electronic H2O2 Capacity in Taiwan

Solvay will more than double Taiwan’s electronic-grade hydrogen peroxide capacity by 2026, strengthening semiconductor supply and supporting advanced chip manufacturing.

Solvay is significantly expanding its production capacity for electronic-grade hydrogen peroxide in Taiwan through its joint venture, Shinsol Advanced Chemicals. The company plans to more than double the facility’s annual production capacity by the end of 2026, reinforcing its position in Taiwan’s rapidly expanding semiconductor supply chain.

The latest investment builds on the successful launch of Shinsol Advanced Chemicals’ electronic-grade hydrogen peroxide manufacturing facility in Taiwan in 2023. The facility was established to serve the growing requirements of the semiconductor industry, where highly purified chemicals are essential for advanced chip production.

Electronic-grade hydrogen peroxide is widely used for cleaning semiconductor wafers during chip manufacturing. As semiconductor manufacturers continue developing smaller, more sophisticated and higher-performance chips, maintaining extremely high levels of chemical purity has become increasingly important. Even microscopic amounts of impurities can negatively affect wafer quality, chip performance and manufacturing yields.

Solvay’s ultra-high-purity hydrogen peroxide products are designed to meet these demanding requirements. The company said the electronic-grade products manufactured in Taiwan have already been qualified by local customers. These products provide the same performance, quality, consistency and standards as materials supplied through Solvay’s global manufacturing network.

Carlos Silveira, President of Solvay’s Peroxides business, said Taiwan remains an important part of the global semiconductor value chain. He added that the capacity expansion reflects Solvay’s confidence in the long-term growth potential of the Taiwanese semiconductor market. Increasing local production will also enable the company to provide customers with more reliable supply, advanced technology and high-quality chemical solutions.

The expansion is being undertaken in partnership with Shinsol Advanced Chemicals. Gregory Wu, Chairman of Shinsol Advanced Chemicals, said the continued collaboration with Solvay demonstrates their shared objective of supporting the expansion of Taiwan’s semiconductor industry. The partnership will increase local manufacturing capabilities while maintaining stringent standards for quality, safety and operational excellence.

Solvay is continuing to work with its customers and joint-venture partner to secure approvals for the next phase of expansion. The move highlights the company’s strategy of increasing local production capacity close to major semiconductor manufacturing hubs.

By strengthening its electronic-grade hydrogen peroxide footprint in Taiwan, Solvay is positioning itself to capture rising demand from semiconductor manufacturers and improve supply security for critical wafer-cleaning chemicals.

Product and Chemical Commodity Price Impact

The expansion is positive for electronic-grade hydrogen peroxide availability in Taiwan. More than doubling production capacity should improve local supply security, reduce dependence on imported material and enable Solvay to meet rising semiconductor demand. For chip manufacturers, greater local availability could support consistent production and reduce supply-chain disruptions. However, the additional capacity may create downward pressure on regional electronic-grade hydrogen peroxide prices over the longer term if supply growth exceeds demand. For commodities tracked by ChemAnalyst, the impact is likely limited because electronic-grade hydrogen peroxide represents a specialized, high-purity segment. Broader hydrogen peroxide prices may remain largely stable, supported by semiconductor-driven demand and production costs.
