Sorbitan Monostearate Prices Decline in Asia amid Eased Input Costs and Improved Market Efficiency

Nightmare Abbey 09-Jul-2025

In June 2025, Sorbitan Monostearate prices in the Asian market declined slightly due to easing raw material costs and improved production efficiency, particularly in India. Stable demand from the pharmaceutical sector and uninterrupted manufacturing operations supported consistent supply. However, subdued demand from the food and cosmetics industries and high inventory levels are expected to keep prices under downward pressure in the coming months.

As per the assessment by ChemAnalyst, in June 2025, Sorbitan Monostearate prices in Asian market decreased slightly due to decrease in production cost and supply side efficiency. Indian Sorbitan Monostearate market, a major player in the region, followed the same trend as domestic prices fell by around 0.57% month on month (Ex-Nagpur). The price decrease was supported by cost friendly environment from raw material and sector specific factors in Indian pharmaceutical industry.

A primary factor contributing to the downward price trend was the reduction in stearic acid prices, which is the major feedstock for Sorbitan Monostearate. The drop in stearic acid was caused by better global availability of palm oils and a competitive pricing environment in the fatty acid space. This change significantly reduced the input cost burden placed on producers of Sorbitan Monostearate. Furthermore, India's pharmaceutical industry also experienced a concurrent decline in excipient prices, which was the result of supply overcapacity in pricing competition with Chinese exporters. There was a lower reliance on imports, which allowed greater cost structures for domestic manufacturers.

Government support to Indian industry also played a big role in boosting local production through schemes and incentives which further increased raw material availability and reduced dependence on imports. All these helped in improving the cost efficiency of excipient production including Sorbitan Monostearate.

Manufacturing conditions in India remained very favorable in June. India’s manufacturing activity reached its highest level since April 2024, indicating stronger industrial activity and positive sentiment. Notably, input cost inflation eased to a 4-month low, due to better supply chain and pricing stability in the industrial chemicals segment. Sorbitan Monostearate production was uninterrupted, no shutdowns or maintenance was reported. This continuity of production ensured uninterrupted supply to the market and further supported the price trend.

On the demand side, Indian market saw steady consumption of Sorbitan Monostearate. Pharmaceutical and healthcare segments demand for Sorbitan Monostearate was stable with regular orders and procurement. As Sorbitan Monostearate is a non-ionic surfactant and emulsifier in pharmaceutical formulations, demand continued despite cost fluctuations. Manufacturers did not report any significant change in buying activity, indicating demand fundamentals are robust. Broader healthcare and personal care segments were healthy and that sustained the Sorbitan Monostearate market.

But Asian Sorbitan Monostearate market outlook is bearish. According to market sources, Sorbitan Monostearate prices are expected to decline further in Asia as demand from food and cosmetics segments is soft. These segments have seen consumption slowdown in recent months and hence new buying is limited. Sorbitan Monostearate inventory is high among regional distributors and that will restrict fresh buying in short term. Domestic production is also expected to be limited due to inventory overhang and that will add to downward pressure on prices.
