Strong Export and Supply Tightness Increase Psyllium Husk Prices by 4.77%

India's psyllium husk market moved higher in January 2026 on robust export restocking and tighter upstream supply. Nutraceutical formulators have maintained restocking for spring launches, while processors redirected capacity toward higher-purity material to meet EU/US food-safety protocols, trimming throughput. Seed arrivals stayed below peak-season norms, and releases were staged, supporting firmer seller offers. Logistics remained orderly, allowing exporters to meet bookings despite tightness. Export demand underpinned the gain, with buyers in the US and Germany placing forward orders covering 80% of Indian output. Domestic activity was more muted but steady, with strong export orientation keeping prices supported. India supplies around 90% of global processed psyllium husk; exports absorb around 80% of local production, concentrating price sensitivity in export channels. Outlook remains mixed but skewed to near-term upside, with gains projected in February and March of around 3% and 2%. A brief softening could occur in April if seed arrivals normalize. Market participants should factor in quality premiums and limited spot availability.

The market prices of Psyllium husk in the Indian market has moved higher through January xxxx. The increase in the market value of Psyllium husk was the result of robust export restocking which has collided with the tight upstream supply. The early January saw unbroken procurement interest from the overseas nutraceutical and bakery formulators that were preparing for the spring product launches. The mid-month decisions by the Psyllium husk processors to prioritise higher-purity material for EU/US food-safety protocols has further trimmed the throughput. The inward flows of psyllium seed were below peak-season norms and harvested volumes were released gradually throughout the January which supported the firm quotation by the sellers. The logistics were orderly late in the month, so export loadings were not impeded. The Psyllium husk market dynamics were focused more on availability and quality compliance rather than the freight disruption.
