Syensqo’s Moerdijk plant gains ISCC PLUS certification, enabling bio-circular, low-carbon Rhodasurf® surfactants for scalable, sustainable laundry formulations.

Syensqo has reached a significant sustainability milestone at its manufacturing facility in Moerdijk, the Netherlands, by securing ISCC PLUS mass-balance certification for a core laundry care surfactant produced at the site. The certification applies to a key Rhodasurf® surfactant manufactured through the plant’s on-pipe ethoxylation facilities, reinforcing the company’s strategy to expand its portfolio of low-carbon, bio-circular products for the home care sector.

The ISCC PLUS certification confirms that the Moerdijk site operates a robust, third-party-verified chain-of-custody system. This system enables Syensqo to reliably track and allocate bio-circular ethoxylate feedstocks across the value chain, ensuring transparency and traceability from raw material sourcing through final product output. With this certification in place, Syensqo will begin commercial supply of certified laureth-7 for liquid laundry detergents under its Rhodasurf B7 UP grade starting in January 2026.

ISCC PLUS certification plays a critical role in validating that bio-circular raw materials are correctly introduced, managed, and assigned along the ethylene oxide value chain. This approach supports the production of natural alcohol ethoxylates that deliver a substantially reduced carbon footprint compared with conventional fossil-based alternatives. For customers, the benefit lies in a true “drop-in” solution: the certified surfactants can be integrated into existing detergent formulations without requiring changes to product performance, manufacturing processes, or established supply chains.

Commenting on the achievement, Max Chabert, Global Marketing Manager for Home Care at Syensqo, highlighted that obtaining ISCC PLUS certification for the Moerdijk ethoxylation unit represents a major step forward in making 100% natural, low-carbon surfactants more widely accessible to the home care market. By applying a mass-balance methodology using bio-circular feedstocks within an existing on-pipe ethoxylation setup, the company can support customers in accelerating the sustainability transition of their laundry formulations, while preserving the performance consistency, reliability, and supply security expected at industrial scale.

The newly certified Rhodasurf® B7 UP grade directly addresses a key challenge faced by fast-moving consumer goods companies and private-label manufacturers: securing natural-origin surfactants with a significantly lower CO2 footprint in volumes suitable for large-scale commercial use. By combining ISCC PLUS chain-of-custody assurance with its well-established alcohol ethoxylation expertise, Syensqo is positioned to provide laundry care formulators with verified, high-quality solutions adaptable to a broad range of brands, formats, and market requirements.

This development is closely aligned with Syensqo’s broader sustainability ambitions under its One Planet roadmap, which focuses on reducing environmental impact while supporting customer innovation. The Moerdijk certification also builds on the company’s earlier ISCC PLUS certification achieved in 2022 at its Zhangjiagang manufacturing site in Zhangjiagang, China. Together, these milestones strengthen Syensqo’s global manufacturing network and reinforce its role as a trusted partner for customers seeking to meet rising expectations around sustainability, transparency, and circularity in home and personal care products.
