A strategic partnership has been formalized between TKMS and E3 Lithium through the signing of a Teaming Agreement aimed at supporting Canada’s evolving submarine capabilities under the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP). This agreement establishes a structured framework for collaboration, focusing on advancing shared priorities such as research, innovation, investment, and the exchange of technological expertise.

At the heart of this cooperation is the goal of incorporating Canada’s critical mineral resources—particularly lithium—into the submarine supply chain. Lithium plays a vital role in powering modern naval technologies, especially in energy storage systems used in next-generation submarines. By aligning their capabilities, both organizations seek to enhance supply chain resilience while promoting sustainable and efficient resource utilization. Thomas Keupp, Chief Sales Officer at TKMS, emphasized the strategic importance of the CPSP in reinforcing Canada’s naval strength. A key component of the partnership involves leveraging the expertise of E3 Lithium, which is recognized for holding one of Canada’s largest lithium resources. The company’s flagship Clearwater Project is expected to play a pivotal role in this collaboration. Utilizing advanced direct lithium extraction methods, the project is projected to achieve an annual production capacity of up to 36,000 tonnes of battery-grade lithium at full scale. This output could potentially supply not only Canadian defense needs but also industrial partners in Germany and allied nations.

E3 Lithium contributes extensive knowledge in lithium resource management, extraction processes, and refining technologies. This expertise will help establish a strong and reliable supply chain capable of supporting both national defense initiatives and international demand.
