US HNBR Prices Drop 3.49% on Lower NBR Feedstock Costs

Nicholas Sparks 23-Jul-2026
HNBR values on the US Gulf Coast trended lower through June as easing feedstock costs and cautious end-user buying created a softer pricing environment. Early June showed Gulf Coast run rates, and later in the month producers faced comfortable inventories and cargo-by-cargo export inquiries rather than restocking. With auto manufacturers pacing purchases around model-year transitions and oilfield buyers maintaining just-in-time orders, sellers conceded discounts to clear spot availability, producing a downward trajectory for HNBR pricing. Demand across key end-use sectors remained muted, with automotive procurement steady and oil and gas orders minimal. Automotive applications such as timing belts and seals continued on production runs, while oilfield needs showed no incremental upswing. Exports were routine. Feedstock relief was notable, easing raw-material pressures and enabling broader discounts. On the supply side, lower feedstock costs and stable inputs supported Gulf Coast operations, pressuring spot levels. Looking ahead, near-term declines are expected with later gains, tempered by volatility in seaborne flows and late-summer weather.

US hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber (HNBR) prices fell *.*** in June **** with further price decline expected in July, with the benchmark HNBR ***–*** FOB Texas quoted at USD **,***/MT — down USD *,***/MT from the prior month&#**;s USD **,***/MT — as a convergence of easing feedstock costs, comfortable Gulf Coast supply conditions, and deliberately measured end-user procurement produced a clear and sustained downward pricing trajectory through the month.

The primary cost-side driver was the decline in NBR feedstock values, with NBR ***–*** CFR Los Angeles falling to USD *,***/MT — a reduction of USD ***/MT from the prior assessment — directly easing the raw material burden for Gulf Coast hydrogenation units. HNBR prices are influenced by butadiene and acrylonitrile feedstock trends, hydrogenation costs, plant operating rates, and supplier strategies, with subdued automotive demand reducing bulk purchases and ample inventories and softer butadiene feedstock...
