USA PTFE Prices Remain Stable in Early September 2026; Outlook Remains Firm

In the first week of September 2026, US Fluoropolymers (PTFE) prices remains stable low, as competitive Asian offers balanced higher logistics costs. Chinese and Japanese suppliers maintained regular export availability, while a 3.3% decline in Chinese chloroform prices reduced upstream cost pressure. Although Shanghai-to-US freight remained elevated and typhoon-related port congestion caused some delays, comfortable offshore availability and cautious spot procurement kept the US PTFE market stable.

Export availability remained comfortable during early September, with Chinese and Japanese PTFE producers operating without major maintenance shutdowns. Lower chloroform prices in the exporting nations  further supported supplier margins and limited attempts to pass higher freight expenses to buyers. Consequently, imported PTFE remained readily available despite elevated transportation costs.

Logistics continued to provide a counterbalancing factor. Shanghai-to-North America container rates remained elevated, increasing the landed-cost baseline for US importers. Meanwhile, typhoon-related congestion around Chinese ports affected vessel schedules and cargo movements. However, these disruptions did not materially restrict PTFE availability, and US ports continued handling incoming shipments without major interruptions.

Downstream demand remained comparatively supportive, particularly from semiconductor, solar and specialised industrial applications. Semiconductor consumption provided an important demand base for PTFE used in high-performance components and processing equipment. However, some converters continued delaying purchases amid regulatory uncertainty surrounding fluorinated materials, while buyers generally preferred consuming existing inventories before committing to additional spot volumes.

Semiconductor activity provided a notable positive signal for PTFE demand. According to Semiconductor Industry Association data, global semiconductor sales reached $146.8 billion, increasing 6.4% month-on-month and 135.1% year-on-year. Sales increased across the Americas, Asia Pacific, China, Europe and Japan, while monthly growth was recorded across all major regions. The sustained expansion, representing the 17th consecutive month of monthly growth, encouraged downstream users to maintain procurement activity.

PTFE  inventory conditions remained adequate across the US distribution chain, limiting urgency for aggressive replenishment. Buyers largely followed purchase-as-needed strategies and focused on production requirements. At the same time, competitive Asian export offers prevented higher freight expenses from translating fully into domestic price increases, reinforcing the stable price environment.

Looking ahead, PTFE prices are likely to remain supported as domestic buyers  increase procurement ahead  National Day holidays in China. Continued semiconductor demand and steady specialised industrial consumption may provide additional support.

Port congestion at major Chinese terminals may intensify as overseas buyers secure cargoes before the holiday period, potentially delaying shipments to the US. If logistics disruptions coincide with reduced holiday-period operating rates, prompt availability could tighten and encourage firmer offers. Nevertheless, competitive Asian supply and sufficient inventories may limit significant price increases.
