Valmet’s new Wet End Analyzer enhances paper production stability, quality, and sustainability through advanced measurement, automation, and optimized process control.
Valmet has unveiled its next-generation Valmet Wet End Analyzer, a cutting-edge innovation aimed at revolutionizing the control and monitoring of wet end processes in paper, board, and tissue production. The new analyzer is engineered to enhance product quality, ensure higher process stability, and lower operational costs through advanced measurement technology and intelligent automation.
With expanded measurement capabilities and multiple new sampling points, the upgraded analyzer delivers a comprehensive set of data essential for stabilizing the wet end section — a critical area that directly influences paper formation and production efficiency. By maintaining a stable wet end, paper manufacturers can achieve more consistent sheet formation, optimize the use of retention and strength chemicals, and reduce both energy and water consumption, leading to a more cost-efficient and sustainable production process.
According to Bogdan Pavlovic, Business Manager for Board and Paper Analyzers within Valmet’s Automation Solutions, this development represents a significant advancement in process control technology. “This innovation in pulp and paper process control bridges a vital gap in managing both product quality and runnability. Building upon decades of experience, the new analyzer now integrates fiber morphology measurement, allowing manufacturers to better understand how chemical dosing affects furnish characteristics,” he explained. Pavlovic added that by broadening the range of measurable parameters, Valmet empowers mills to operate more efficiently and sustainably, aligning perfectly with the company’s mission to advance resource efficiency across the industry.
The Valmet Wet End Analyzer now features continuous online sampling for total fiber, fines, and ash consistency across as many as three process lines. These real-time measurements, when paired with the Valmet IQ Quality Control System, maintain stability in white water properties and improve resilience against process fluctuations. This integration helps mills achieve greater control accuracy and uniformity in sheet formation.
Furthermore, the analyzer is equipped with advanced ultra-high-definition camera optics and intelligent image-processing software. These capabilities deliver a detailed view of headbox fiber characteristics that directly impact the final paper quality. Through precise morphological analysis, operators can fine-tune fiber blend ratios and optimize the dosage of retention chemicals to ensure the best possible product performance.
Beyond quality control and process optimization, the new analyzer also supports improved environmental outcomes. It includes oxygen measurement to optimize biocide dosing, minimizing excess chemical use. Additionally, a new filtrate sampling feature extends its analytical scope to thick stock, offering a more complete picture of process conditions.
