VEOCEL™ debuts sustainable, high-performance Lyocell fibers for cleaning wipes at WOW 2025, promoting eco-friendly innovation and enhanced disinfecting efficiency.
At the upcoming World of Wipes® (WOW) 2025 in Columbus, Ohio, VEOCEL™, the flagship specialty nonwovens brand of Lenzing, will unveil a significant innovation in the realm of surface cleaning and disinfecting products. Their latest development, VEOCEL™ Lyocell fibers for Enhanced Cleaning, introduces a sustainable, high-performance solution designed to reshape the design and performance standards of modern wipes. This new fiber offering is part of VEOCEL™'s broader innovation theme, "Unleash Possibilities," which encourages Lenzing’s partners to explore advanced material alternatives that are both effective and environmentally conscious.
These newly developed Lyocell fibers, derived entirely from wood-based raw materials, provide a sustainable substitute for conventional synthetic, fossil-based fibers commonly used in wipe applications. This innovation not only supports the global push to reduce plastic waste but also enhances the user experience and cleaning efficiency.
The Enhanced Cleaning fibers are specially engineered to produce denser and stronger nonwoven fabrics, resulting in improved wiping performance. A critical benefit of these fibers is their ability to distribute liquid evenly, which minimizes dripping and ensures better control during use. Remarkably, compared to synthetic counterparts, wipes made from these VEOCEL™ fibers can clean up to twice the surface area, significantly boosting their disinfecting capabilities.
Another notable advancement is the fibers’ compatibility with active disinfectant ingredients, particularly quaternary ammonium compounds (quats). While traditional cellulosic fibers often need chemical modifications to bond effectively with such ingredients, VEOCEL™'s Enhanced Cleaning fibers are crafted using select raw materials and optimized production techniques, ensuring consistent and minimal binding with actives. This makes them highly efficient and suitable for applications that were previously reliant on plastic-based solutions.
The technical benefits extend further—these fibers also possess excellent wet strength and form stability, maintaining integrity even at lower basis weights. These features make them ideal for various cleaning environments, ranging from household and personal care to commercial, institutional, and industrial settings.
Importantly, all VEOCEL™ Lyocell fibers are biodegradable and produced through a closed-loop, eco-friendly manufacturing process that emphasizes low emissions and efficient resource use. The Enhanced Cleaning variant upholds this commitment to sustainability while introducing a new benchmark for cleaning performance in the wipes industry.
Patricia A. Sargeant, Executive Vice President of Nonwovens at Lenzing AG, emphasized, “With the introduction of VEOCEL™ Lyocell fibers for Enhanced Cleaning, we’re unlocking new opportunities for customers to replace synthetic materials with cellulosic alternatives—achieving superior cleaning outcomes while advancing environmental stewardship.”
