Weak Feedstock Support and Sluggish Downstream Keep US PET Prices Stable in December H1

During the early half of December 2025, the US Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) market held stable price trend. This is mainly due to the insufficient cost support from feedstock markets and subdued demand from the downstream industries including PET bottle and food packaging sectors.

Supply for the PET remained ample during the period in region, amid steady feedstock flow, optimistic operation and ample inventory. On the feedstock side, prices for the key feedstock PTA remained stable during the period while another crucial feedstock MEG price declined by x.xxx amid weak upstream support and limited market demand. Though the PET overseas imports remained influenced during this period after rising trade tensions. Following the President Trump Oath, trade and tariff war with China erupted and US imports from the China weakened due to high tariff prompting domestic marketers to explore other Asian market including Taiwan and South Korea. 

Market sentiment was further influenced when US administration implemented tariffs on all imported PET and rPET. On September x, US authorities imposed a tariff on all imports for PET and rPET, to strengthen the domestic market....
