Westlake completes acquisition of ACI compounding business, expanding global footprint, enhancing specialty compounds portfolio, and strengthening housing and infrastructure markets.
Westlake Corporation has officially completed the acquisition of the global compounding solutions business of the ACI/Perplastic Group, collectively referred to as ACI. This strategic transaction represents a significant step forward in Westlake’s long-term growth strategy, particularly in strengthening its position within the global specialty compounds market. Headquartered in Portugal, ACI is widely recognized as an established manufacturer of high-performance specialty materials, with a strong focus on serving the wire and cable industry across multiple international markets.
The integration of ACI’s operations into Westlake’s existing compounding platform is expected to create meaningful synergies and unlock new opportunities for innovation, scale, and customer reach. According to Jean-Marc Gilson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Westlake, the acquisition is closely aligned with the company’s strategic priorities. He emphasized that combining ACI’s expertise with Westlake’s compounding operations will further strengthen the company’s Housing & Infrastructure Products (HIP) segment. This move is also expected to enhance the capabilities of Westlake Global Compounds by broadening its specialty product offerings and incorporating advanced technologies into its portfolio.
Westlake views the acquisition as a value-enhancing investment that will accelerate growth in key end markets, particularly those linked to infrastructure development, energy transition, and modern construction. ACI’s deep technical knowledge and customer-centric approach complement Westlake’s existing strengths, allowing the combined organization to better serve evolving customer requirements. By integrating ACI’s specialized formulations and processing expertise, Westlake aims to deliver more differentiated, high-value solutions to customers worldwide.
From an operational standpoint, the transaction significantly expands Westlake Global Compounds’ manufacturing footprint. With this acquisition, Westlake adds production facilities in Portugal, Romania, and Tunisia to its global network, while further reinforcing its existing operations in Mexico. This broader geographic presence is expected to improve supply chain resilience, shorten delivery timelines, and enhance customer responsiveness across Europe, North Africa, and other strategic regions. The expanded footprint also positions Westlake to better support multinational customers seeking reliable, regionally diversified supply partners.
Maribel Wilson, Vice President of Westlake Global Compounds, highlighted ACI’s strong reputation for innovation and quality. She noted that ACI has consistently delivered high-performance, value-added solutions tailored to demanding applications, particularly in the wire and cable sector. Wilson expressed enthusiasm about welcoming ACI’s experienced and skilled workforce into the Westlake organization, underscoring the importance of people and expertise in driving long-term success. Collaboration between the two teams is expected to foster knowledge sharing, accelerate product development, and strengthen customer relationships.
For ACI, joining Westlake provides access to a larger global platform, enhanced resources, and broader market opportunities. The combination is expected to support continued investment in technology, product innovation, and sustainable solutions, reflecting shared commitments to operational excellence and responsible growth. Overall, the acquisition reinforces Westlake’s ambition to be a leading global provider of specialty compounds, while creating a stronger, more diversified business capable of delivering long-term value to customers, employees, and stakeholders alike.
