SIMPEC secures $4M contract for SMP works at Tianqi Lithium Kwinana, boosting its presence in Australia’s lithium and clean energy sector.
WestStar Industrial Ltd. has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, SIMPEC, has been awarded a significant new contract at the Tianqi Lithium operations in Kwinana, Western Australia. The scope of work involves delivering structural, mechanical, and piping (SMP) services for the facility, marking an important milestone for both SIMPEC and its parent company.
The contract, valued at approximately $4 million, was officially awarded by Tianqi Lithium Energy Australia, which is jointly owned by Tianqi Lithium Corporation and IGO Ltd. SIMPEC is set to begin the project imminently, highlighting the company’s growing reputation as a trusted contractor in the resources and clean energy industries.
WestStar Industrial’s Managing Director, Mark Dimasi, emphasized the importance of this contract, noting that it enhances SIMPEC’s credibility as a partner for large-scale, complex industrial projects. “This award strengthens our position as a trusted partner for complex industrial projects and reflects our growing role in Australia’s lithium and clean energy sector,” Dimasi stated. He also underlined SIMPEC’s commitment to delivering the project safely, on schedule, and to the highest possible standards.
This development aligns with the increasing demand for lithium in Australia, as the country continues to solidify its position as a global leader in battery minerals. Tianqi Lithium’s Kwinana plant is a critical part of Australia’s lithium refining capacity, producing battery-grade lithium hydroxide, a material essential for the electric vehicle (EV) and renewable energy storage sectors. Upgrading this facility is expected to enhance production reliability and efficiency, directly supporting the broader growth of Australia’s clean energy supply chain.
For SIMPEC, the contract represents more than just financial value—it signifies its expanding footprint in a sector that is seeing unprecedented growth. The company specializes in delivering high-quality services across multiple disciplines, including structural mechanical and piping, electrical and instrumentation, concrete products, and civil works. Its focus on safety, efficiency, and precision engineering has enabled it to build long-term relationships with clients in both mining and energy industries.
By securing this latest contract, SIMPEC is reinforcing its role as a reliable partner in the lithium processing and clean energy sector. With the global push towards decarbonization and the electrification of transport, projects such as these are not only commercially significant but also strategically vital to the transition to sustainable energy.
As work commences at Tianqi Lithium Kwinana, SIMPEC’s contribution is expected to play an important role in supporting Australia’s clean energy infrastructure while strengthening its own reputation for delivering excellence in industrial construction and asset management.
