Wevo introduces two advanced silicone rubbers enhancing textile, electronics, and fuel-cell applications through high durability, strong adhesion, wide temperature resistance, and automation-ready performance.
Wevo-Chemie, a leading German speciality chemicals manufacturer, has strengthened its advanced materials portfolio with the introduction of two next-generation liquid silicone rubbers (LSRs) — WEVOSIL 23010 and WEVOSIL 23030. These newly developed silicone materials are designed to address the evolving needs of modern industries, particularly those requiring high-performance textile coatings, enhanced durability, precision sealing, and reliable automation-driven processing. The launch marks another step in Wevo’s commitment to creating materials that enhance manufacturing efficiency while meeting the stringent functional requirements of textiles, electronics, and fuel cell components.
According to the company, both LSR systems offer a broad service temperature range, functioning effectively from –60°C to +200°C. This wide thermal tolerance, combined with excellent performance in thermal shock evaluations, makes them well-suited for operability in challenging and fluctuating conditions. Their formulation has been optimised to ensure smooth, consistent dispensing across various substrates including textiles, metal surfaces, and plastic components. As production cycles become more automated and high-volume manufacturing demands more accuracy, materials with such consistency are becoming indispensable for global manufacturers.
WEVOSIL 23010 has been developed as an extra-soft silicone rubber specifically tailored for textile-related applications that demand flexibility without compromising mechanical integrity. Despite its notably soft composition, it exhibits an impressive elongation at break exceeding 900% and a tensile strength of 5.5 N/mm². These mechanical characteristics enable it to withstand significant stretching and deformation while maintaining functionality. Another key advantage of this LSR is its inherent ability to adhere to both fabrics and polymer surfaces without requiring primers. This primer-free adhesion significantly accelerates production processes and reduces operational complexity.
Wevo highlights that WEVOSIL 23010 has strong potential in the fast-growing smart textiles sector. From high-performance protective garments used by firefighters and defence personnel to innovative sportswear, the material supports applications where flexibility, comfort, and mechanical endurance are essential. Its ability to encapsulate sensors, wiring, and miniature electronic elements directly within fabric layers allows manufacturers to integrate electronic functionalities without compromising the texture or wearable comfort of the end product. This makes the material a valuable enabler for next-generation smart and functional textiles.
The second material, WEVOSIL 23030, has been engineered to deliver higher mechanical strength while retaining excellent elasticity. It offers an elongation at break of over 500% and a tensile strength of 5.0 N/mm². After undergoing post-curing, the material demonstrates strong adhesion to metals and a variety of plastic substrates. These attributes make WEVOSIL 23030 particularly well-suited for sealing and coating components that operate in extreme thermal environments or under substantial mechanical stress — such as those found in fuel cell systems, automotive parts, and industrial electronic assemblies.
Together, WEVOSIL 23010 and 23030 strengthen Wevo’s position as a provider of silicone solutions that support innovation in multiple sectors, offering manufacturers materials that combine precision processing, durability, and adaptability for the next wave of high-performance products.
