What Factors Are Supporting China Cyclohexane Prices in Early September?

Jane Austen 10-Sep-2026
China’s Cyclohexane prices rose 3.28% during the first week of September 2026, driven primarily by a 6.24% increase in benzene costs and improving PA6/caprolactam market sentiment. Rising crude prices and storm-season logistics risks further strengthened supplier pricing. Although inventories remained relatively high and operating rates stood around 62–66%, producers resisted discounts, indicating that cost pressure rather than supply shortages drove the increase. Demand improved as buyers prepared for autumn production and fourth-quarter requirements, although textile consumption remained cautious. Cyclohexane prices are expected to rise through September and October as buyers stockpile ahead of Golden Week disruptions, before easing from November as producers restart and inventories weigh on fresh purchasing.

China’s Cyclohexane prices increased 3.48% during the first week of September 2026, as firmer benzene costs and improving PA6-chain sentiment strengthened supplier offers. The market benefited from rising upstream costs and expectations of seasonal demand recovery, although actual downstream consumption remained cautious.

On the supply side, Cyclohexane producers faced stronger cost pressure as benzene prices increased 6.24%, prompting manufacturers to defend margins through higher offers. Rising crude prices, linked to geopolitical tensions and concerns over shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, further lifted feedstock replacement costs. Meanwhile, producers remained cautious about discounting ahead of storm-season logistics risks, supporting firmer Cyclohexane bids despite generally adequate availability. Earlier market conditions had shown relatively high inventories and operating rates around 62–66%, suggesting that the September increase was driven more by costs than by an outright supply shortage.

Demand for Cyclohexane was mixed but increasingly supportive as buyers anticipated the traditional “Golden September” peak season. The PA6 and caprolactam chain provided steady offtake, with higher upstream prices encouraging downstream manufacturers to secure raw materials for fourth-quarter production. However, textile activity remained relatively soft, and downstream buyers were reluctant to chase rapidly rising prices because actual terminal consumption had not fully recovered. Regional trading enquiries nevertheless improved, reducing sellers’ incentive to offer discounts. Consequently, Cyclohexane demand provided enough support for higher prices without creating a broad-based shortage.

Looking ahead, Cyclohexane prices are expected to rise through September and October as buyers increase procurement after the summer lull and stockpile material ahead of China’s Golden Week disruptions and autumn production cycles. The PA6/caprolactam chain is likely to remain the principal demand-supporting factor, while elevated benzene costs should keep production economics firm. September restocking could therefore strengthen buying interest even if end-use textile consumption remains moderate. In October, Golden Week-related production and logistics interruptions are expected to temporarily restrict availability, while buyers holding additional inventories may continue supporting prices.

However, the upward momentum is forecast to weaken in November as producers restart after the holiday period, improving Cyclohexane supply and reducing the scarcity premium. Buyers are also expected to rely on inventories accumulated during September and October rather than actively replenish stocks, weakening fresh purchasing. Therefore, Cyclohexane prices are anticipated to soften in November, with further downside possible in December as year-end destocking and slower procurement reduce demand. The near-term outlook remains firm, but the Cyclohexane market is expected to shift from cost- and stocking-driven strength toward greater supply availability and cautious buying later in the year.
