Will Lower Urea Costs and Comfortable Inventories Extend the Bearish US UFC Market?

US Urea Formaldehyde Concentrate (UFC) prices declined in July 2026 as weaker demand, comfortable inventories, and lower feedstock costs pressured the market. Engineered-wood, plywood, MDF, laminate, furniture, and construction adhesive manufacturers reduced purchases and relied on existing stocks. Stable production and adequate terminal availability encouraged suppliers to offer competitive quotations. Lower urea costs and steady methanol availability further reduced production expenses, allowing greater pricing flexibility. Seasonal softness in construction and wood-panel manufacturing also limited procurement activity. According to ChemAnalyst, the bearish trend is expected to continue in the near term as cautious buying and manageable feedstock costs keep pressure on UFC prices.

Urea Formaldehyde Concentrate (UFC) prices in the US declined during July 2026 as weaker downstream demand, comfortable supply, and lower feedstock costs increased pressure on the market. According to ChemAnalyst, reduced purchasing from engineered-wood manufacturers and furniture producers limited spot-market activity, while stable production and adequate inventories allowed suppliers to offer more competitive prices. Seasonal softness in construction and wood-panel manufacturing further reduced consumption, keeping the market tone bearish throughout the month. UFC sellers therefore faced limited pricing power as buyers remained focused on short-term requirements.

Demand from engineered-wood manufacturers remained the main factor behind the July decline. Producers of plywood, particleboard, medium-density fiberboard (MDF), and laminates reduced resin purchases as construction-related activity moderated. Furniture manufacturers and construction adhesive users also maintained cautious buying strategies and relied on existing inventories instead of committing to larger volumes. As a result, enquiries for UFC weakened and some buyers postponed replenishment into later periods. Lower purchasing intensity reduced spot-market competition and encouraged suppliers to offer discounts on UFC cargoes.

The softer demand environment was accompanied by comfortable supply conditions. US producers maintained relatively steady operating rates during July, with no major production disruptions reported. Adequate terminal inventories and regular domestic availability reduced concerns about prompt supply shortages. Distributors therefore faced limited urgency to secure additional UFC and increasingly competed through lower offers to maintain sales volumes. Routine cross-border shipments to Latin America provided some support, but export demand remained insufficient to offset weaker domestic consumption. This availability kept UFC quotations under pressure across key US trading hubs.

Feedstock economics also contributed to the bearish price movement. Urea prices remained under pressure, reducing the production cost base for UFC manufacturers. Stable methanol availability further supported uninterrupted production and prevented significant cost-related constraints. Lower input costs gave producers greater flexibility to reduce selling prices while protecting operating margins. This combination of softer feedstock expenses and stable manufacturing conditions reinforced downward pressure on UFC quotations during July.

Market behaviour reflected the weakening fundamentals. Buyers increasingly focused on consuming existing stocks and purchasing only immediate requirements, while distributors adjusted UFC offers to stimulate demand. The absence of significant supply disruptions meant that sellers had limited pricing power. At the same time, seasonal weakness across construction and engineered-wood applications reduced the urgency for fresh resin procurement, leaving the market comfortably supplied.

As per ChemAnalyst, the market is expected to remain under pressure in the near term, with further downside likely as downstream buyers continue cautious procurement and feedstock costs remain manageable. Market participants will closely monitor urea and methanol prices, engineered-wood production, construction activity, terminal inventories, and export demand for indications of the next UFC price direction.
