A national leader in utility services, XKIG, has announced its acquisition of River City Construction, a move that is expected to significantly expand its operational footprint and service capabilities.
XKIG, a national leader in critical infrastructure services, has announced its acquisition of River City Construction. The deal, which was finalized on August 4, 2025, positions XKIG to strengthen its foothold in the Mid-Atlantic region and leverage River City's expertise to expand its national offerings in the face of rising energy demand and infrastructure modernization efforts.
River City Construction, a firm with a rich history dating back to 1975, has built a reputation as a rapidly growing provider of construction and maintenance services for electric, telecommunications, and renewable energy utilities. Its deep-rooted presence in the Mid-Atlantic states, including North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware, has been a key factor in the acquisition. The company has cultivated strong relationships with a diverse range of customers, from large investor-owned utilities to rural electric cooperatives and municipal utility companies. This customer base, coupled with its proven track record, makes River City a valuable addition to the XKIG portfolio.
Randolph Hoover, Chief Executive Officer of XKIG, described the acquisition as a "pivotal time" for the company. "River City is a solid fit for XKIG, with a shared mission and dedication to utility customers and the communities they serve," Hoover stated. He highlighted that River City already shares several large regional customers with XKIG's existing subsidiaries, Xylem Tree Experts and Kendall Vegetation Services. "With this acquisition, we now offer an even stronger proposition to these utilities as well as the broader national market," he added, emphasizing the strategic benefits of a unified service offering.
Cindy Edwards, President of River City Construction, expressed enthusiasm for the new partnership. "We have experienced significant expansion in recent years, and by joining XKIG, we will leverage that momentum to move into new regions across the nation," she said. Edwards noted a common commitment between the two organizations to technological innovation, a culture of safety, employee well-being, and continuous improvement. This alignment, she believes, will allow the combined entities to "capitalize on a range of synergistic opportunities" and accelerate growth.
The acquisition comes at a time when the utility services market is undergoing a major transformation. Driven by the global push for clean energy, the modernization of aging infrastructure, and a growing demand for reliable power, the sector is experiencing a period of significant investment and consolidation.
