Zhejiang Petroleum & Chemical (ZPC) in China has outlined plans to recommence the production of phenol and acetone on Line 1 in Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province, starting December 17. The decision follows a scheduled maintenance period during which the production line, boasting a yearly capacity of 400 thousand tons of phenol and 250 thousand tons of acetone, was temporarily closed on November 20.

This strategic move indicates ZPC's commitment to maintaining and optimizing its production capabilities, ensuring the consistent supply of essential chemicals. The scheduled repairs were a proactive measure to enhance the efficiency and reliability of Line 1, aligning with industry standards and best practices.

Prior to this, ZPC had successfully resumed production on Line 2 for bisphenol A (BPA) in Zhoushan on November 7, following a planned maintenance shutdown. Line 2, with a production capacity of 240 thousand tons of BPA annually, had been temporarily closed on November 1 for scheduled repairs. BPA serves a crucial role as a hardener in plastics manufacturing and various plastic-based products. It stands as a key monomer in the synthesis of epoxy resins and polycarbonates, essential components in the plastics industry.

The resumption of operations on both Line 2 for BPA and the upcoming restart of Line 1 for phenol and acetone underscore ZPC's commitment to operational excellence and market responsiveness. By strategically managing maintenance schedules and swiftly resuming production, ZPC aims to meet market demands effectively, contributing to the overall stability and efficiency of the chemical supply chain.

ZPC, a private company, is actively involved in the construction of a new petrochemical complex in eastern China. The majority shareholder of Rongsheng Petrochemical owns 51% of ZPC, demonstrating strong industry collaboration. Other notable shareholders include China's Juhua Group and Tongkun Group, showcasing a diversified ownership structure.

The production resumption on Line 1 aligns with ZPC's broader objectives to cater to the growing demand for phenol and acetone, essential chemicals with widespread applications in various industries. Phenol is a fundamental ingredient in the production of plastics, resins, and pharmaceuticals, while acetone serves as a versatile solvent and raw material in chemical synthesis.

The maintenance and subsequent restart of Line 2 for BPA further solidify ZPC's position as a key player in the production of crucial chemical components. BPA's role as a hardening agent in plastics manufacturing underscores its importance in enhancing the physical properties of plastic products, contributing to their durability and resilience.

As ZPC advances its production capabilities and navigates scheduled maintenance activities, the company's focus on maintaining a balance between efficiency, sustainability, and market demand is evident. The strategic location of Zhoushan in Zhejiang Province, a prominent industrial hub, enhances ZPC's accessibility and connectivity, facilitating seamless operations and supply chain dynamics.
