Product Description
Dibutylamine is an organic chemical compound belonging to the class of secondary amines, with the chemical formula C₈H₁₉N, formed by the attachment of two butyl groups to a nitrogen atom, and it typically appears as a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a strong, ammonia-like odor. It is moderately soluble in water and highly soluble in most organic solvents, making it useful in various industrial applications. Dibutylamine is widely used as an intermediate in the production of rubber chemicals, corrosion inhibitors, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and emulsifiers, and it also plays a role in the manufacture of flotation agents and surfactants. Due to its basic nature, it readily reacts with acids to form salts and can participate in numerous chemical reactions such as alkylation and acylation. Industrially, it is produced through the reaction of butanol with ammonia in the presence of catalysts. However, dibutylamine is considered hazardous, as it can cause irritation to the skin, eyes, and respiratory system, and prolonged exposure may lead to more serious health effects, requiring proper handling, storage, and safety precautions in industrial environments.
