Product Description
Polyquaternium refers to a large family of positively charged (cationic) polymers widely used in personal care and cosmetic formulations for conditioning, film-forming, and anti-static properties. The name “Polyquaternium” is followed by a number (such as Polyquaternium-7, Polyquaternium-10, etc.), which identifies a specific polymer with a particular chemical structure and performance profile. These polymers contain quaternary ammonium groups that carry a permanent positive charge, allowing them to bind effectively to negatively charged surfaces like hair and skin. In hair care products such as shampoos and conditioners, polyquaterniums help reduce static, improve detangling, enhance softness, increase shine, and form a protective film over the hair shaft. In skincare formulations, they act as conditioning and moisturizing agents by creating a smooth, lightweight film that improves skin feel and reduces moisture loss. Because different grades vary in molecular weight and charge density, their thickening, conditioning, and deposition properties differ depending on the formulation requirements.
