Acelen Renewables has strategically chosen Honeywell's Ecofining™ technology to bolster the efficient production of a targeted 20,000 barrels per day of SAF and renewable diesel. This ambitious venture by Acelen Renewables will see the processing of fuels at their facility located in Bahia, Brazil. The raw materials for these eco-friendly fuels will be derived from a blend of inedible seed and waste oils.

Honeywell's Ecofining process, a result of collaboration with Eni SpA, stands out as a capital- and cost-effective solution designed for processing waste fats, oils, and greases into renewable diesel and SAF. The utilization of this innovative process aligns with the growing global emphasis on sustainable aviation fuels, contributing to reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions when blended with conventional jet fuel. In fact, SAF has the potential to decrease GHG emissions by up to 80% when compared to conventional fossil fuels.

The Ecofining process, introduced in 2013 for renewable diesel and in 2016 for SAF production, has earned its status as a proven and reliable tool in the pursuit of reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, particularly in the aviation sector. Acelen Renewables' decision to adopt this technology underscores its commitment to environmentally responsible practices in the biofuel production landscape.

Acelen Renewables joins a distinguished roster of companies worldwide that have embraced Honeywell's renewable fuels technology. Notable names in this consortium include BP, CVR Energy, Diamond Green Diesel, Eni, Repsol, Total, and World Energy. The global adoption of Honeywell's technology is reflected in the issuance of 50 licenses, with eight facilities already operational and over 40 licensed plants slated to be operational by 2030. The collective renewable fuels capacity of these plants, when operating at peak efficiency, is anticipated to surpass 500,000 barrels per day.

Marcelo Cordaro, the Chief Operating Officer of Acelen Renewables, expressed the significance of incorporating Honeywell's Ecofining process in achieving the company's ambitious goals. Cordaro emphasized the aim of producing one billion liters of renewable diesel and sustainable aviation kerosene (SAF) annually starting in 2026. This initiative positions Acelen Renewables as a major player in the global biofuel production landscape, showcasing Brazil's capacity to contribute to the future of sustainable fuel production.

Through the "fully sustainable" project, Acelen Renewables seeks to establish a comprehensive approach that is economically, socially, and environmentally responsible. This undertaking is poised to demonstrate Brazil's full potential in producing the fuel of the future, aligning with global efforts to transition towards more sustainable and eco-friendly energy solutions. Honeywell's Ecofining technology plays a pivotal role in this endeavor, providing a robust and proven platform for the production of renewable diesel and SAF, contributing to the advancement of sustainable practices in the biofuel industry.
