At ADIPEC 2024, ADNOC and AIQ introduced ENERGYai, a groundbreaking custom-built agentic artificial intelligence (AI) solution designed to accelerate the global energy transition. ENERGYai combines advanced large language models with "agentic" AI—specialized AI agents trained to handle specific tasks across ADNOC’s value chain. These AI agents can perform critical tasks with exceptional precision and autonomy, ranging from seismic data analysis to optimizing energy efficiency and enabling real-time process monitoring. The solution is designed to integrate seamlessly into ADNOC’s existing workflows, harnessing the power of machine learning and predictive analytics to enhance decision-making and drive operational efficiency.

ENERGYai represents ADNOC’s commitment to pioneering sustainable, data-driven solutions that set new industry standards. Developed in collaboration with AIQ, G42, and Microsoft, the platform integrates leading-edge technologies such as Open Subsurface Data Universe (OSDU) frameworks and OpenAI models. These technologies ensure that ENERGYai delivers optimal performance, offering real-time insights, predictive capabilities, and enhanced decision-making tools for energy professionals across the globe.

Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and ADNOC’s Managing Director and Group CEO, highlighted that ENERGYai is a key milestone in ADNOC’s vision to become the world’s most AI-enabled energy company. He emphasized that ENERGYai would be a transformative tool for ADNOC’s value creation and sustainable energy production, helping the company unlock the full potential of its data resources. “ENERGYai will empower our people and enable ADNOC to create innovative solutions across the value chain, driving efficiency, improving sustainability, and ensuring the secure delivery of energy to the world,” said Dr. Al Jaber. He also pointed out that AI’s accelerating impact on industries worldwide will help future-proof ADNOC’s operations and reinforce its leadership in AI deployment.

Peng Xiao, Group CEO of G42, added that ENERGYai aligns with G42’s mission to drive AI-enabled transformation in the global energy sector. He noted that by combining ADNOC’s deep industry expertise with G42’s advanced AI capabilities, the two companies are building a strong foundation for the future of energy. “ENERGYai will bring unparalleled insights, enhancing energy efficiency, resilience, and sustainability across the entire energy value chain,” said Xiao.

Darryl Willis, Corporate Vice President for Microsoft’s Energy and Resources Industry, explained that AI technologies like ENERGYai are poised to play a pivotal role in optimizing energy usage, improving safety, increasing reliability, reducing emissions, and accelerating the transition to low-carbon energy solutions. “By collaborating with ADNOC and AIQ, we are creating solutions that will drive economic growth, improve energy security, and advance a net-zero future,” Willis said.

ENERGYai is trained on ADNOC’s extensive 80 years of data, and its development will follow a three-year timeline, with real-world testing beginning by the end of 2024. The first phase of testing will focus on key areas, including the creation of detailed geological models to support CO2 storage solutions. It is expected that ENERGYai will accelerate geological modelling processes by up to 75%, helping ADNOC scale carbon capture and storage initiatives more effectively.

By leveraging AI to create a more efficient, data-driven energy ecosystem, ENERGYai is set to transform the way ADNOC operates, driving sustainable practices and reinforcing the UAE’s role as a global leader in energy innovation.
