Aduro advances FOAK plant in Netherlands, appointing Ebert HERA for permitting while progressing technology deployment, partnerships, and commercial readiness.
Aduro Clean Technologies Inc., commonly referred to as Aduro or the Company, is a clean technology firm focused on leveraging advanced chemical processes to convert low-value feedstocks—such as waste plastics, heavy bitumen, and renewable oils—into useful, sustainable resources suitable for modern industrial applications. Recently, the Company announced that it has awarded a contract to Ebert HERA B.V. to oversee and lead the permitting process for its first-of-a-kind (FOAK) industrial facility. This facility is planned to be constructed at the Chemelot Industrial Park, located in Sittard-Geleen in the Netherlands, a well-established hub for chemical and materials innovation.
Ebert HERA was chosen for this important role due to its strong reputation and extensive experience within the Chemelot ecosystem. The firm is recognized for its capability in coordinating complex permitting processes that involve multiple regulatory authorities across the Netherlands. Its close working relationships with both industrial site operators and local governmental bodies enable it to navigate regulatory requirements efficiently. Additionally, Ebert HERA possesses in-depth knowledge of the specific permitting frameworks applicable to Chemelot and the Province of Limburg. This expertise is expected to ensure that the permitting process is well-structured, organized, and less prone to delays, thereby facilitating smoother progress through regulatory reviews and supporting the project’s advancement from development to construction.
As part of the agreement, Ebert HERA will be responsible for preparing and coordinating all necessary civil and environmental permit applications. This includes conducting and managing assessments related to safety, health, and environmental impact. Furthermore, the firm will act as the primary liaison with relevant regulatory agencies, ensuring that all compliance requirements are met. The outcome of this work will help establish a clear regulatory pathway for the FOAK facility. Importantly, the current permitting strategy is being designed with future scalability in mind, allowing for potential capacity expansion as Aduro aims to evolve the FOAK facility into a full commercial-scale operation over time.
The FOAK plant itself represents a significant milestone for Aduro, as it will be the first industrial-scale deployment of its proprietary Hydrochemolytic™ Technology (HCT). This technology builds upon the Company’s Next Generation Process (NGP) pilot program and is specifically engineered to transform end-of-life plastic waste into circular hydrocarbon products. A key objective of the facility is to produce naphtha, a valuable feedstock that can be seamlessly integrated into existing petrochemical infrastructure, thereby supporting circular economy initiatives.
In addition to these developments, Aduro has secured an indicative offtake agreement with a global commodities trading firm. This agreement covers an initial portion of the production output from the FOAK plant, signaling strong commercial interest and confidence in the project. It also highlights the Company’s progress across several critical areas, including site selection, permitting activities, and commercial partnerships, as it moves closer to industrial-scale implementation.
Ofer Vicus, the Chief Executive Officer of Aduro, emphasized that with the site selected and initial offtake arrangements in place, the Company is now concentrating on advancing the permitting phase. Supported by local expertise, Aduro is progressing multiple workstreams simultaneously, including engineering, design, and regulatory compliance, as it moves steadily toward construction and eventual operation of the facility.
