Air Products, a global leader in industrial gases, has announced that its Taiwan-based subsidiary, Air Products San Fu, has secured a long-term agreement to support the expansion of a major semiconductor manufacturer in Taiwan. The project is designed to meet rising demand for semiconductor production, fueled by rapid growth in artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) applications.
As part of the agreement, Air Products San Fu will design, construct, own, and operate four advanced air separation units (ASUs) along with bulk gas supply systems. These facilities will produce and deliver essential industrial gases, including nitrogen, oxygen, argon, and helium, which are critical for semiconductor wafer fabrication and advanced chip packaging processes. The project will serve several newly established semiconductor fabrication plants (fabs) as well as back-end packaging facilities.
To ensure uninterrupted and efficient gas delivery, the company will also install new underground pipeline systems that will connect seamlessly with Air Products' existing pipeline network across Taiwan. This integrated infrastructure is expected to improve supply reliability, operational efficiency, and system resilience, enabling semiconductor manufacturers to maintain stable production while minimizing operational risks.

He emphasized that the project demonstrates Air Products' commitment to supporting customers' growth while maintaining the highest standards of safety, reliability, and operational excellence. Air Products has maintained a strong presence in Taiwan for more than seven decades through Air Products San Fu. Over the years, the company has built one of the country's most extensive industrial gas pipeline networks across major science parks. It also operates one of the world's largest ultra-high-purity nitrogen pipeline systems in southern Taiwan and was the first industrial gas supplier in Taiwan to achieve both ISO 9002 and ISO 14000 certifications, highlighting its focus on quality management and environmental standards.
The latest investment further strengthens Air Products' integrated supply capabilities across both front-end semiconductor manufacturing and advanced back-end packaging. As global demand for AI chips, high-performance processors, and advanced electronics continues to rise, the expanded infrastructure positions Air Products to play an increasingly important role in supporting Taiwan's semiconductor ecosystem.

While the project is unlikely to create immediate price spikes due to its phased implementation, sustained capacity additions and AI-driven chip production could tighten regional supply-demand balances over the medium term.
