AMIGO LNG selects COMSA Marine for EPC of advanced Guaymas LNG terminal marine facilities, boosting efficiency, exports, and regional economic growth.
AMIGO LNG SA de CV, a joint venture between Texas-based Epcilon LNG LLC and Singapore-headquartered LNG Alliance, has announced the awarding of the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for its marine facilities to Constructora Manzanillo SA de CV (COMSA Marine), a renowned Mexican EPC contractor specializing in marine and port infrastructure. This development marks an important milestone in the advancement of AMIGO LNG’s large-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico. The terminal will have a production capacity of 7.8 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) and will be located on the country’s west coast, offering strategic access to global energy markets.
Under the scope of the EPC agreement, COMSA Marine will undertake the detailed engineering, construction, and commissioning of all marine infrastructure related to the project. This includes the LNG jetty, berthing and mooring systems, and supporting utilities for LNG loading operations. The marine facilities will feature advanced quad-berth configurations equipped with high-capacity LNG loading arms capable of exceeding 15,000 m³ per hour. This high-performance setup is designed to minimize vessel turnaround time, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure the safe transfer of LNG to outbound carriers.
These state-of-the-art facilities are a cornerstone in AMIGO LNG’s vision to provide secure, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible energy exports. “Awarding the EPC contract for our marine facilities represents a significant achievement in our project schedule,” commented Dr. Muthu Chezhian, CEO of LNG Alliance. He added that COMSA Marine’s deep expertise in LNG terminal construction and marine engineering ensures adherence to the highest benchmarks for safety, quality, and environmental stewardship.
Echoing this sentiment, COMSA Marine’s President, Mr. Ruben Alamo, expressed pride in being chosen for the project. “We are honoured to be entrusted with this challenging endeavour. Our success will rely on blending local expertise with strict adherence to international standards in environment, safety, and quality. We aim to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to deliver a project that will create long-term benefits for Mexico and the wider region,” Alamo said.
The Guaymas location offers several strategic advantages, including a deepwater port and close proximity to significant natural gas supplies. These factors, combined with shorter shipping routes, could reduce voyage times by up to 35% compared to other export options. AMIGO LNG is targeting the start of LNG exports by the third quarter of 2028. The project is also expected to stimulate economic growth in Sonora through local supply chain involvement, job creation, and infrastructure development.
By combining competitive pricing with advanced marine capabilities, AMIGO LNG positions itself to become a key player in supplying LNG to global markets efficiently and sustainably.
