Amogy and GreenHarvest have partnered to deploy Taiwan's first ammonia-to-power system, aiming to accelerate industrial decarbonization in the region's crucial high-tech and manufacturing sectors.
In a move set to revolutionize Taiwan's industrial energy landscape, Amogy, a leading provider of scalable and efficient ammonia-to-power solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with GreenHarvest, a prominent Taiwan-based renewable energy firm. This collaboration will see the deployment of Taiwan's first-ever ammonia-to-power system, a significant stride towards accelerating industrial decarbonization in one of the world's most vital digital infrastructure and semiconductor hubs.
The partnership underscores a shared commitment to sustainable energy solutions, bringing Amogy's cutting-edge ammonia cracking technology to the forefront of Asia's clean energy transition. Under the terms of the agreement, Amogy will supply its innovative ammonia-to-power system, while GreenHarvest will spearhead the crucial local integration efforts, serving as the power generation and distribution partner.
The pilot system is slated for installation between late 2026 and early 2027 at a selected large industrial electricity consumer facility in Taiwan. This initial deployment holds immense potential for broader adoption, with plans to scale the technology across the island's burgeoning high-tech and manufacturing sectors.
Seonghoon Woo, CEO at Amogy, expressed immense pride in this groundbreaking initiative. “We are proud to bring our ammonia-powered technology to Taiwan with a forward-looking partner like GreenHarvest,” said Woo. “This project not only represents the first deployment of our technology in Taiwan, but also a critical step toward decarbonizing industrial energy use in one of the world’s most important digital infrastructure economies.”
Amogy’s proprietary system is designed to convert ammonia into hydrogen on-site through the use of advanced catalyst materials. The hydrogen produced is then fed into a hydrogen engine, generating high-performance power with absolutely zero carbon emissions. The modular and efficient nature of this system makes it particularly well-suited for hard-to-abate industrial operations that require both unwavering reliability and substantial scalability.
This project with GreenHarvest further solidifies Amogy’s expanding presence in Asia, following the company’s recent expansion into South Korea earlier this year. This growing footprint is aimed at bolstering regional commercialization efforts and fostering deeper collaborations across the continent.
Taiwan is actively pursuing ambitious decarbonization goals outlined in its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). This partnership offers an innovative and practical pathway for industrial sectors, particularly eco-conscious manufacturing, to significantly reduce their Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. Furthermore, the collaboration aligns seamlessly with Taiwan’s developing carbon trading framework, providing industrial electricity users with a future-proof energy solution that not only diminishes their operational carbon footprints but also aids in compliance with evolving regulatory policies.
