Wood wins $50M, two-year Ampol contract extension for Lytton refinery maintenance, integrating AI-driven maintAI to boost efficiency and reliability.
Wood, a prominent global consulting and engineering firm, has secured a significant $50 million contract extension from Ampol to continue delivering maintenance services at the Lytton refinery in Brisbane, Australia. This latest agreement, spanning two years, strengthens a partnership that has been in place for more than a decade and underscores the critical role Wood plays in ensuring operational excellence at one of the nation’s most important energy assets.
Under the renewed contract, Wood will be responsible for maintaining safe, reliable, and efficient fuel production at the refinery. The company’s scope of work includes comprehensive maintenance management, multi-disciplinary technical services, and brownfield modification field services. These functions are essential to the ongoing smooth operation of the Lytton facility, which has the capacity to process approximately 6.5 billion litres of crude oil annually, making it a cornerstone of Australia’s domestic energy security.
A key element of this contract extension is the implementation of maintAI, Wood’s proprietary digital maintenance platform. By leveraging artificial intelligence-driven data analysis, maintAI will enable more effective maintenance strategies. The technology is designed to identify and prioritise the most critical maintenance activities, streamline operations by reducing unnecessary tasks, and boost asset reliability across the refinery. This AI-enabled approach reflects the increasing importance of digital transformation in the energy sector, where operational efficiency and reliability are paramount.
Ralph Ellis, President of Asia Pacific Operations at Wood, expressed pride in the longstanding relationship with Ampol. He emphasised that this extension reflects the proven expertise and dedication of Wood’s teams, stating:
“We’ve proudly worked alongside Ampol for over a decade, delivering quality maintenance solutions at Lytton to ensure the reliability of this nationally significant refinery. This contract extension is testament to the strength and expertise of our team and their continued commitment to supporting Ampol’s critical refinery operations.”
The contract is structured on a reimbursable basis, ensuring that resources are deployed effectively to meet Ampol’s evolving needs. More than 150 local employees will support the project, bringing regional expertise and reinforcing the partnership’s contribution to the local economy. The work will be executed through Wood’s Operations business, which has a track record of managing complex industrial projects across the Asia Pacific region.
As the Lytton refinery continues to play a vital role in securing Australia’s fuel supply, this extended partnership between Ampol and Wood positions both companies to leverage innovation and skilled local talent to maintain high operational standards, improve efficiency, and sustain energy security for the nation.
