This C$11 million project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, solidifying Bioenerys' position as a key renewable energy producer and agricultural waste solution provider.
Anaergia Inc, a global leader in converting organic waste into renewable energy, has announced a landmark agreement through its subsidiary, Anaergia S.r.l., with Bioenerys. The deal focuses on a substantial expansion and technological upgrade of Bioenerys' existing anaerobic digestion facility located in Moglia, northern Italy. This strategic initiative is poised to dramatically increase the plant's capacity and enhance its operational efficiency, with a projected completion date by the end of 2026.
The core objective of this ambitious project is to significantly boost the production of biomethane at the Moglia facility. The enhancements are expected to more than double the volume of biomethane injected into the national grid. Furthermore, the upgraded plant will possess an increased capacity to process agricultural residues. Anaergia anticipates recognizing revenues of C$11 million from this transformative project.
Andrea Sgorbini, CEO of Bioenerys’ Agri unit, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “We are pleased to be utilizing the world’s best available technological systems and expertise to optimize the operations of our Moglia plant.” He further emphasized the broader impact of the expansion, noting, “With this expansion and upgrading, Bioenerys will become an even more significant solutions provider to farmers and other generators of agricultural organic residues, and Bioenerys will also become a bigger generator of renewable energy.” This sentiment underscores Bioenerys' commitment to sustainable agricultural practices and its role in the clean energy transition.
Assaf Onn, CEO of Anaergia, highlighted his company's specialized capabilities, stating, "Anaergia has extensive experience utilizing the most complete suite of organic waste to energy solutions." He added, "We are very pleased to be providing a range of proprietary solutions to Bioenerys so that it can increase and improve its operations and also realize economic and environmental benefits." This collaboration is a testament to Anaergia's expertise in delivering cutting-edge solutions for organic waste management and renewable energy generation.
The expansion and upgrade of the Moglia facility are expected to have a multi-faceted positive impact. Environmentally, the increased biomethane production will contribute to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and a decreased reliance on fossil fuels like LNG. Economically, the project will strengthen Bioenerys' market position and potentially create new opportunities within the local green economy. For the agricultural sector, the enhanced capacity to treat residues offers a sustainable waste management solution, transforming waste into a valuable resource.
