Baker Hughes wins Train 4 order for Rio Grande LNG, supplying turbines and compressors to expand capacity by 6 MTPA sustainably.

Baker Hughes, a global leader in energy technology, has announced a major award from Turkish Petroleum (TPAO) and the Turkish Petroleum Offshore Technology Center (TP-OTC) to deliver advanced subsea production and intelligent completion systems for Phase 3 of the Sakarya Gas Field development in Türkiye’s Black Sea. This project represents a critical step in strengthening Türkiye’s energy independence and securing long-term supplies for the nation.

As part of the agreement, Baker Hughes will supply deepwater horizontal tree systems along with integrated subsea structures and control systems designed to function at depths ranging from 6,500 to 7,200 feet. These technologies will enable efficient production operations under challenging subsea conditions. In addition, Baker Hughes’ advanced intelligent upper and lower completion systems will provide multizonal control, giving operators greater precision and flexibility in managing complex subsurface reservoirs.

Commenting on the development, Amerino Gatti, executive vice president of Oilfield Services & Equipment at Baker Hughes, emphasized the project’s importance for Türkiye’s future. “The development of the Sakarya gas fields has transformed Türkiye’s energy sector, laying the foundation for a more secure and prosperous future. By leveraging our unique combination of subsea and completions technologies, as well as our operational expertise and subsurface insights, Baker Hughes, together with TPAO and TP-OTC, will continue unlocking these vital hydrocarbons that will fuel Türkiye for decades to come.”

Baker Hughes has been actively involved in the Sakarya Gas Field since the project’s initial development began in 2022. Its GaffneyCline™ energy advisory division has partnered closely with TPAO and TP-OTC to conduct reservoir assessments and evaluate technologies suited to the field’s distinctive geological characteristics. Moreover, Baker Hughes has deployed lower completions solutions that are particularly effective for thin-layered reservoirs like those found in the Black Sea, helping to optimize production from complex formations.

During Phase 3, Baker Hughes will integrate its completions technologies—including InForce™ HCM™-A interval control valves, SureTREAT™ chemical injection valves, SureSENS™ QPT ELITE gauges, REACH™ subsurface safety valves, and SC-XP™ Select Zero Loss stack-pack systems—directly with subsea production infrastructure. This integration is expected to enhance engineering synergies and deliver operational efficiencies, reducing risks while maximizing hydrocarbon recovery.

Deliveries and execution for Phase 3 of the Sakarya Gas Field will commence in late 2025, underscoring Baker Hughes’ continued commitment to advancing Türkiye’s offshore energy capabilities. Through this collaboration, Türkiye is reinforcing its position in the global energy market while taking decisive steps toward a more resilient and independent energy future.
