BASF launched Efficon in Egypt, offering innovative Axalion® technology for sustainable, long-lasting pest control in vegetables and potatoes.

BASF Agricultural Solutions has officially launched Efficon® in Egypt, marking a significant advancement in sustainable crop protection and modern pest management. The newly introduced next-generation insecticide is specifically developed to combat major sucking pests that threaten high-value crops, providing farmers with a powerful and innovative solution to improve crop productivity and quality.

Efficon® is formulated with Axalion® Active, BASF’s latest innovative active ingredient that introduces a completely new mode of action (MoA) for insect control. The product represents a major milestone in sustainable agriculture by delivering highly effective and dependable protection against harmful piercing and sucking insects. With its advanced technology, Efficon® offers Egyptian farmers long-lasting pest control while supporting the adoption of more responsible and environmentally conscious farming practices.

Agricultural producers in Egypt are increasingly facing complex challenges related to pest management. Rising temperatures and changing climatic conditions have altered pest behavior and increased pest pressure across several important crops. Additionally, the continuous use of conventional insecticides has contributed to the development of pest resistance, reducing the effectiveness of existing control methods and threatening crop yields, quality, and overall farm profitability.

As these challenges continue to grow, farmers require innovative solutions that offer new mechanisms to control pests while reducing the risk of resistance development. Efficon® has been designed to address these concerns by providing a unique mode of action that delivers reliable performance and long-lasting efficacy in the field. By introducing a new insect control option, BASF aims to strengthen integrated resistance management programs and help growers maintain sustainable production systems.

The new insecticide has been developed especially for vegetable and potato farmers, targeting destructive piercing and sucking insects such as whiteflies and aphids. Efficon® acts rapidly by stopping insect feeding soon after application, which helps minimize plant damage and significantly reduces the spread of harmful plant viruses. Classified under IRAC Group 36, the product brings a valuable new tool to farmers seeking diversified pest management strategies and improved long-term control.

Efficon® is also fully compatible with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs, allowing growers to combine biological, cultural, and chemical control methods more effectively. The product provides excellent pest control while maintaining a high level of crop selectivity, enabling farmers to protect their harvests without compromising sustainable agricultural goals.

Youssef Babouih, Regional Director of BASF in Egypt and the Middle East, emphasized that the launch of Efficon® reflects BASF’s ongoing commitment to introducing world-class agricultural innovations to Egypt and surrounding markets. He explained that the product is the result of substantial investment in research and development and has been created to address the evolving requirements of modern agriculture. Babouih highlighted Egypt’s importance as a strategic agricultural market and stated that Efficon® will help growers enhance yields, improve crop quality, and increase their competitiveness in international export markets.

Dr. Murat Ayaz, Vice President of Agricultural Solutions for Southern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, stated that Efficon® demonstrates BASF’s dedication to delivering sustainable agricultural technologies worldwide. He noted that innovation remains central to the future of farming, supported by BASF’s annual global research and development investment of approximately €2.1 billion, including nearly €1 billion focused specifically on agricultural solutions. Through its extensive research network and technological expertise, BASF continues to develop advanced solutions that enable farmers worldwide to achieve higher productivity while preserving environmental sustainability.

With the launch of Efficon® in Egypt, BASF strengthens its position as a leading provider of innovative crop protection solutions. The introduction of this advanced insecticide represents a new chapter in sustainable pest management by combining high performance, reliability, and resistance management benefits. Through Efficon®, Egyptian farmers gain access to cutting-edge technology that will support healthier crops, improved agricultural output, and a more sustainable future for the country’s high-value farming sector.
