BKV Corp. and Comstock Resources Inc. have entered into an exclusive, non-binding agreement to explore the development of carbon capture, utilization and sequestration (CCUS) projects at two of Comstock’s natural gas processing facilities located in its Western Haynesville operations.

Under the terms of the agreement, BKV would lead the development of CCUS infrastructure at Comstock’s Bethel and Marquez facilities in Texas. The goal is to construct injection wells capable of permanently sequestering carbon dioxide generated during natural gas processing. The companies also anticipate evaluating additional sites for future CCUS projects.

The agreement remains subject to final terms and the execution of definitive contracts. However, the collaboration highlights a shared vision between the companies to reduce emissions while meeting growing energy demand.

By aligning BKV’s CCUS expertise with Comstock’s prominent footprint in the Haynesville shale—a key natural gas-producing region spanning Northwest Louisiana and East Texas—the partnership aims to capitalize on direct access to the Gulf Coast’s high-demand energy markets and liquefied natural gas (LNG) export corridor.

“BKV is proud to contribute our proven track record as we work to deliver innovative solutions that address energy needs and reduce carbon emissions,” said Chris Kalnin, CEO of BKV. “Partnering with an industry leader like Comstock offers a strong opportunity to demonstrate how our CCUS capabilities can support natural gas producers in operating more sustainably. We believe carbon capture is vital to the future of responsible energy, and this agreement reflects our mutual commitment to innovation, sustainability and long-term energy resilience.”

Comstock leadership echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the importance of scalable, low-carbon solutions for industrial consumers.

“Industrial customers are looking for sustainable, low-carbon energy options, and this partnership will help us deliver just that,” said M. Jay Allison, CEO of Comstock Resources. “We are excited to collaborate on projects that reinforce our focus on innovation and environmental responsibility. BKV’s leadership in carbon capture technology makes them an ideal partner to advance our vision for a cleaner energy future.”

Both companies are optimistic about the potential of this collaboration to advance the commercial deployment of CCUS and support broader decarbonization goals within the natural gas sector.

Based in Denver, Colorado, BKV Corporation (BKV) is a dynamic, growth-oriented energy company dedicated to delivering value to its shareholders. Its primary focus is the production of natural gas from assets it owns and operates. BKV's operations span four key business segments: natural gas production; gathering, processing, and transportation; power generation; and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). Established in 2015 (along with its predecessor), BKV is committed to redefining what it means to be an energy company. Today, it ranks among the top 20 gas-weighted natural gas producers in the U.S. and holds the distinction of being the largest producer by gross operated volume in the Barnett Shale. BKV Corporation serves as the parent entity for the broader BKV family of companies.
