BPCL and Reliance BP Mobility join forces to expand India’s CNG and CGD infrastructure, advancing the nation’s cleaner energy transition goals.
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has entered into a strategic collaboration with Reliance BP Mobility Limited (RBML) to accelerate growth in India’s City Gas Distribution (CGD) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) sectors. The partnership is positioned to enhance cleaner energy access and promote a gas-based economy, reinforcing India’s long-term energy transition goals.
This alliance marks a significant step under BPCL’s Project Aspire, an initiative designed to drive sustainable growth and innovation across its energy portfolio. Through this partnership, BPCL aims to extend its reach in the gaseous fuels segment while strengthening its contribution to India’s energy diversification efforts.
The agreement was officially signed by Rouf Khan, Chief General Manager – Projects & Marketing (Gas), BPCL, and Sanjay Pandita, Head – Gaseous Fuels, RBML. The signing ceremony was attended by key leaders, including Shri Subhankar Sen, Director – Marketing, BPCL; Rahul Tandon, Business Head – Gas, BPCL; Sarthak Behuria, Chairman, RBML; and Akshay Wadhwa, CEO, RBML, signifying the strategic importance of the partnership for both organizations.
Speaking on the occasion, Rahul Tandon emphasized BPCL’s commitment to ensuring that cleaner fuel reaches every consumer efficiently. “It is essential that the end customer receives our molecule, which aligns with India’s broader goal of promoting a gas-based economy. This collaboration will help accelerate progress toward that national objective,” he said.
Akshay Wadhwa, CEO of RBML, also highlighted the value of leveraging RBML’s extensive retail network to boost CNG adoption. “Our outlets experience high customer footfall, which provides an excellent opportunity to increase CNG sales and further the transition toward sustainable mobility,” he noted.
By combining BPCL’s strong expertise in energy distribution with RBML’s retail infrastructure and customer reach, the partnership is expected to significantly expand access to CNG across major cities and highways. It also aims to enhance consumer convenience by ensuring the reliable availability of cleaner and more affordable fuel options.
The collaboration underscores both companies’ shared vision of supporting the Government of India’s target to increase the share of natural gas in the national energy mix from 6% to 15% by 2030. Together, BPCL and RBML aim to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions that contribute to reducing carbon emissions and promoting energy security.
This strategic initiative reflects the growing momentum in India’s transition toward low-carbon energy systems, where public-private partnerships play a crucial role in shaping the future of clean mobility and urban energy infrastructure.
